Meet Alex Roa of The Culture Club Inc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Roa.

Hi Alex, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello, thank you for having me.

I was born in Houston, TX to single mother Ingrid Roa Wynne. Helping raise me was my German grandmother Helga Sommers and Colombian grandfather Ernesto Roa, who both immigrated to the United States after World War II. I come from a family of entrepreneurs as my mother, uncle, and grandfather were all business owners and inspired me to own my work and create value from nothing. I’ve always been an entrepreneur, selling candies on the playground in 4th grade, publishing a book in 7th grade, offering website building services and related computer help in 8th grade, starting a clothing company in 10th grade, becoming a recording artist in 10th grade, starting a 501c3 nonprofit my senior year of high school, and a small independent record label in that same year. I attended Second Baptist School and grew up with Memorial and Stratford kids, played SBMSA football and basketball, and was a frequent among the various friend groups within the memorial/galleria area. As a student I took mostly AP classes, competed in many Model UN conferences across the world and won many awards, participated in Theater as supporting and featured roles in school-produced performances, and was awarded the National Hispanic Scholar award in 2020.

My journey to where I am today is because of luck, blessing from God, strategic timing, and blood sweat and tears. After the 2020 COVID lockdowns, I moved to artist management world, where I saw my first true major success through my skills of marketing, moved to digital platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Youtube, Facebook, etc…Through moving an unknown artist to generate millions of streams, I saw more opportunities in being a part in what I like to call the “content revolution”, or, the transition of marketing services from traditional means (billboards, TV, etc) to digital means (influencers, social media, video content). I spent about 2 months under the wing of fellow Houston native Gilberto Sosa, who guided me through the world of content management, talent acquisition, and creative marketing, working as a producer for the first LatinX influencer content house in the world, based in Houston TX. After this experience, I felt like I was ready to offer my skills in creative digital marketing and content management to the world. Recalling my time in the music industry, I decided I could do what I did for the artist back in 2020, for many upcoming artists under various major music labels. Though a learning process at first, I slowly have moved up through my merits working on #1 albums, to my data analytical approach to converting online viewership to actual consumers (or, listeners). During this process of working through music, I also began to form powerful relationships with various social media talents across the world, and began offering talent management as a part of my newfound digital agency – The Culture Club. Since these first initial moves, we’ve worked with major brands, artists, technologies, softwares, and other agencies to provide promier content marketing services.

In everything I do, I represent myself, my family, and my hometown of Houston. So its an honor to be involved with Houston Voyage, and I am excited to tap back into city-based projects to further advance the people of this city.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The way up is extremely difficult. Thousands of rejections weekly, many sleepless nights, hours clocking in overtime.

In the process of building a global digital empire, partaking in high stakes negotiations, and keeping up with many well-funded competitors, I also was a student at Texas Christian University double majoring in Computer Science and Economics – taking 18 hours a semester of highly technical courses. The constant stress, anxiety, imposter syndrome adds up over time! One of my biggest obstacles is not having enough time – for family, for myself, for rest, etc. But I love it – I love the constant battle, the constant need to innovate, the constant burning passion to do the impossible.

We’ve been impressed with The Culture Club Inc., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Culture Club was founded in June 2021 with the vision of creating culture via social media influence. Primarily focused in the social media marketing and influencer space, The Culture Club houses relationships with hundreds of social media influencers from around the world, with niche-centered strategies and building movements by inducing micro to macro content production scale. We work with the world’s social media superstars to curate captivating content and build long-term careers with our creators. We serve companies with their online branding, social media outreach, and influencer marketing. My job is putting the people together to make it all possible. As lead executive, I create the road maps for all creators’ growth plans, track engagement with our proprietary regression algorithms, and create the marketing plans for most major partnerships as well as maintain relationships with existing clients.

Each service we offer, or partnership we commit to is carefully curated and thought over, and we aren’t greedy with our personal profit.

For the talent we manage, we have an instant payment system (other agencies make their talent wait 30 days for payments), and we are readily available for any needs/concerns.

The Culture Club is a data and results-driven business. We are extremely flexible for each client, from small businesses to major corporations that we work with.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
My background is in computer science, not marketing. My only “professional” experience in marketing was as a door to door salesman – which inspired my very direct sales approach for scoring new clients.
