Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Margarita Marmolejo.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started as a client of a friend in Mexico and I was interested to know how she was doing it, I learned to make my own accessories and then my friends became my clients. I moved to Houston four years ago and married a wonderful man, but make hand made jewelry was my passion and I did it to work from home and spend time with my family. The same thing happened with the bakery. I just decide to be more known in the city, I made some business cards and flyers.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Well, about the bakery, I think my main struggle is decoration, I’m good at it but get to know and be the master in every single taste from each client, it’s something that I’m still working on. About the hand made jewelry, the thing is that sometimes people don’t understand the love, passion and time that someone put in each piece. It’s art not well appreciated.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Bakery and hand made jewelry are my passion, but I think my carrot cake is what I am best known for and what I have obtained most of my clients. I’m very proud of my work because everything is made with love. I don’t know about other people, but I’m more worried about my material and be better every day than compare me with other artists.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My friend Ceci Garcia was my mentor, she teach me with the hand made jewelry. The bakery was funny because I learned to do everything wrong and start all over, that’s how you learn. Of course, my husband is very supportive and my sister as well, they help me to take care of my baby Linda, she’s 2 years old so, always moving and looking for attention, but she’s also a very good girl.
