Today we’d like to introduce you to Aracely Nanez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Aracely. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started doing hair and makeup for my family and friends at a very young age. I didn’t really see it as work because I was passionate about it. I decided to go to PMTS school. I graduated in 2008. Since graduating I have kept up with my professional development by attending classes in Mexico and in the United States for hairstyling, makeup and chemical services such as balayage, ombre, among other modern trends with well-known people like Lisaloves Balayage, Lalas Updo’s, Iluvsarahii, Macdaddy, Mac Cosmetics, Atelier, Waithsman. I am always willing to deliver the best services to my clients with good products, experience and great service.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve always been very independent. It was very hard in the beginning. Due to the fact that I was young. Therefore, people didn’t trust me. So I had to work extra hard to earn that trust. At times I had to give away my time and charge super cheap prices to earn their business and eventually build my clientele that way. I started gaining experience which was the most important thing for me.
It took me several years to adapt and find my specialties and to figure out what I liked doing the most. Especially, because what I was doing was not being offered at the Salon. Everything was so new to me. I started seeing frequent and returning clients come back. I was being recommended by word of mouth. People would ask for me. Eventually, my calendar was overbooked. That’s when I knew I was on the right path.
Hair_makeupbyshelly – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
It’s a family business. I specialize in doing professional hairstyles, and make-up for Weddings, Quinceañeras or any other formal events. I also do the balayage technique, man, among others. I love staying current with the latest styles and trends.
I’m very proud to say that we will be remodeling our Salon. I’ve been there 10 years and we’ve never made such a drastic change. I’m very excited to see my goals and dreams become a reality. I’m beyond excited to see what my the future brings professionally.
One thing that makes me different from others; When I work on my clients, I do the work as if it was my hair and face. I take it very seriously. I always strive to achieve the best result possible. Most of my clients find it funny that get excited to see the ending result. When I can see that they look beautiful, my work is done. They know that I’m with them from the beginning to the end.
It’s absolutely priceless to see them smiling because I listen closely to meet their expectations. When the smile comes on with the final touch my work is done.
To top it off, I enjoy a good time with them while doing their service.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The most important thing for me is the experience. Being clear as to why you’re applying that technique on the makeup, hairstyle, etc. Knowing how it will all turn out even before you start to meet the client’s needs.
At the same giving them time, being patient, and good communication is very important. I can’t forget always staying humble and kind to them!
