Meet Ariel Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariel Hill.

Ariel, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a singer, performer, songwriter, and musician. I have been performing and writing music since the age of 12 and it’s truly my biggest passion. Within in recent years, live performance has taken on a whole new meaning for me. Live music seems to be the last living art we can’t touch with a filter or correct with an app. It’s real, it’s raw, and we experience it together. Every time I perform I am possessed by a mood. Sometimes I control the mood and sometimes the audience does. To me, the stage is a potpourri of possibilities and it’s what life will always revolve around. There’s no other world I’d rather live in than one where I create, express, and connect through music.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road hasn’t been smooth but what fun would it be if it was? I have countless stories of times I’ve been burned in the industry, struggles, hardships, but I don’t really choose to focus on those. To me, that’s just the opposite side of the coin, the shadow that’s cast when you decide to shine a bright light. I’m grateful to continually be brought back to music whenever I’ve tried to change course out of frustration or despair. Since I began building a career centered in music I was stuck believing other’s ideas of what success means for an artist. I’ve learned the past few years to redefine that for myself. I haven’t made my life about getting anywhere in particular but getting better and growing bigger and loving harder. I stay rooted in that.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I sing, play piano and guitar, write, and perform music for a living. I love all kinds of music and my originals definitely reflect an array of influence. You’ll find hints of jazz, R&B, soul, and classical in the compositions I create. I love performing my originals but I also love using the art of music to connect and heal those around me. I’m also super proud and fortunate to be the musical director for Camp H-town, an organization that works with children with cancer and helps provide them with experiences that remind them that there is more to life than their illnesses.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
There’s so much I love about Houston but if I had to choose one thing it would be how celebrated diversity is here. My least favorite thing about Houston is everything to do with transportation.
