Meet Ashton Allen of AKA Visuals in Richmond

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashton Allen.

Ashton, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
So my journey in this content creator space began five months ago. I was really going through a lot to be honest and I just wanted to find a hobby that would help me get out of the negative funk that I was in. One day I was on Instagram and I randomly ran across a popular Houston photographers page and decided that I was going to get a camera one day and try to take some dope pictures. I posted on my story how I was going to save up and get a camera one day, and literally 5 minutes later my dad messaged me and told me I could have his camera (shout out to my pops!!!).

Ever since I got my camera, I’ve been all over the city of Houston, really testing my creative abilities and trying to come up with awesome content and also I’ve been networking and connecting with creatives trying to create dope & meaningful content, which has most definitely been my favorite part of this journey!

Has it been a smooth road?
Honestly, the road has been a little bumpy, but I’m just learning how to deal with it as I go and still, I’m enjoying the journey! Some of the main struggles I’ve been facing recently are struggles that I face internally like over-thinking and caring too much about other’s opinion. I’ve been really focusing on not over-thinking too much or letting close friends and family talk me out of things because you begin to create worry in your head and it builds anxiety, then you’ll end up talking yourself out of awesome opportunities that you will end up regretting later down the road. Over-thinking kills creativity and caring about other’s opinions will keep you locked in a box!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The name of my business is called “AKA Visuals”! I’m a content creator that specializes in portrait and event photography/videography! I also offer audio/visual services (event lighting, audio, and stage design). I’m known for my quick turn around time and communication skills. Before my journey started, most of the jobs I had were in customer service, and I believe that it is important to make sure that the client knows exactly what’s going on at all times and making sure that they get exactly what they came to you for as soon as possible. Although there are many dope content creators in the city, I believe I’m different because I’m not really in this field for the money or the recognition. I have a big vision for the city that will help ALL of us be successful!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like Houston is a great city! We are one of the largest cities in the nation and we are one of the most diverse cities in the nation, there are plenty of opportunities to get out there and connect with creatives as well as connecting with mentors to guide you in this field. Anyone can definitely hit me up, I’m down to collaborate with any and everybody!!
