Today, we’d like to introduce you to Belinda Hillhouse. Belinda was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented Carol Lipworth.
Belinda, thank you so much for joining us today. We’d love for you to bring our readers up to speed – can you introduce yourself and share your story?
I started my art business, Belinda Hillhouse Arts about 9 years ago. I was an art major in college, but didn’t really pursue it as my career. However, I have always thought my artistic background helped me be successful in my retail career.
I began painting as a hobby and one day noticed I didn’t have a window sill left in the house without a painting in it! It was time to start selling some of these pieces. A few of my artist friends and I starting doing art shows around town, and pairing up with organizations, charities, etc. Once the word starting getting out, I began doing commission pieces and selling more.
Recently I have moved in a slightly different direction, but still abstract art. I found some new inspiration with new looks and techniques that I’ve been really happy with. I am currently working on a couple shows for this fall.
Let’s talk about your work and career – what else should we know?
I work at one of the top clothing stores in Houston and the country. We carry some of the top Italian luxury lines, with everything from blue jeans to black tie! We specialize in custom and made to measure clothing from several of these top Italian lines, and are one of the top producers in the country. We are a small local business and have a wonderful mix of clients. I have worked here for quite some time and developed many great relationships with my clientele. It’s like having my friends come shop with me, and I can help them with their wardrobe. I take a real personal interest in each client to better learn how to build their wardrobe depending upon their individual needs, whether it’s their work with professional attire, cocktail attire, clothing for travel, or casual for the weekend. I try to always go the extra mile to make sure each customer knows they are special to our store and always appreciated.
Carol Lipworth has been a great friend to us and I know you’ve got a great relationship as well. Maybe you can tell our audience a bit about Carol and your experience with them.
For many years I sold Carol Lipworth Design jewelry in our ladies department. Carol has always had a great eye for creating great quality jewelry, but more importantly it is always one of a kind and so unique. She also is always conscious of the customer service side and is always available to change a piece or make a new creation. We have always worked closely together on custom pieces and special needs for many of our clients.
Carol and I have hosted many Pop Up Shops and special events over the years even outside of the store. She is always a pleasure to work with and has a great sense of business as well as creative ideas.
I personally am one of her clients and wear her jewelry every day! I feel like it’s my good karma, to bring a little goodness with me wherever I go. I have always been a big fan, but she has really stepped it up lately with her new designs and stones.
