Meet Blanca Vasquez of FabuLash Me Houston in North

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blanca Vasquez.

Blanca, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Houston, TX. Both of my parents immigrated from El Salvador and have lived here for over 35 years. When I was ten years old, my parents were given a great opportunity to start their own business. I saw that my parents were very content with running their own business, so I felt highly motivated to later become my own boss.

I have always worked in the medical field, but deep down I knew that I still had potential to become my own boss in a field that I was truly passionate about. A few years ago, I saw that eyelash extensions were becoming popular, so I decided to give them a try. I fell in love with the way they both felt and looked. I knew I wanted to give that same feeling to other women around Houston, which lead to me enrolling in a beauty school and earning a specialty eyelash extension license.

I’ve made great progress in my work, but I know there’s always more out there for me. With the help of my supportive husband, colleague, and inspiration from my children, I plan on later becoming a licensed esthetician and opening my own salon. Houston! Be on the look out for a hot new salon in the near future!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. There is, and will always be, many challenges and tough trials in life. One of my biggest struggles has been comparing my work to other lash technicians. However, I’ve come to realize that the beauty of this industry lies in the individuality of everybody’s work. I’ve learned to embrace and love my own style of lashing.

We’d love to hear more about your business.

I apply individual eyelash extensions. We have a variety of curls, lengths, diameters and styles.

If it’s your first time trying eyelash extensions, I’d recommend starting off with Classic. Classic is one eyelash extension on one natural lash. If you want more fullness, we apply Volume or Mega Volume. Volume is more than one extension applied to one natural lash. While there are pre-made eyelash fans, I don’t go that route. I hand make all of my volume fans! Last but not least, if you’re looking for a look that’s a bit more subtle than volume, we apply Hybrid. Hybrid is a mixture of Classic and Volume. Refills are required every 2-3 weeks just like nails, but keep in mind, refills cost a lot less than the full set that you get the first time.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been a kind and giving person. One of my strong suits has been my ability to listen to people, which is very handy in this business.
