Today we’d like to introduce you to Brionya James.
Brionya, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve had a passion for visual art since I was young and began pursuing it by the end of grade school. I went to SHSU to study Bachelors of Fine Arts, yet withdrew and became introduced to the tattoo industry. Trying to find myself, my style and purpose in art, I knew being a tattoo artist wasn’t for me.
Eventually, I became one with my calling and knew that God directed my path to create light and positivity for the world. My journey holds an evident experience of growth in building my brand and I’m thankful to have such support from people who’ve witnessed this progress with me.
I am proud to say I have been a full-time artist for the past two years and have exceeded the six-figure mark. I strongly encourage all creatives who truly have a passion to follow their dreams and exercise their gifts so they can shine and inspire others to do the same.
Has it been a smooth road?
Honestly no, the road to success is never a walk in the park. The mountains and valleys to accomplish goals are greatly appreciated yet I have to continuously pray for strength because each step becomes more challenging than the next. I’m never satisfied so I strive to want more, initially looking forward to the next breakthrough.
There are times in my career where it’s just dripping and not overflowing. Times where marketing may become slow and your audience can only afford to admire your work at the moment. Even times where the word “no” can get you discouraged but despite all of the bumps and hurdles in your road to success, you have to keep pushing to get to the finish line. If you really want it, you won’t give up.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Brionya James Creations story. Tell us more about the business.
BJC is a conceptual gallery of paintings that have derived from my spirit. I consider myself a God taught artist because as I create , I know that it’s not just me orchestrating the hues, the elements and overall vision that touches other people’s hearts. Majority of my work reflects black divinity, love, reality and appreciation. I tend to receive a lot of stories from individuals who have elaborated how a certain piece has spoken to them, has inspired them in some shape, form or fashion.
My work has traveled its way across the globe and speaks volumes for itself. Because of this, I give no one the credit but my God. I’m just a vessel spreading the light in a world that needs it. I’m only set apart from those who have yet to discover what their treasure is within, I’m helping those seek it through viewing my work.
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
The proudest moment in my career would have to be having the ability to teach the youth and pass down the torch for the next generation. I’ve built a solid foundation and still laying brick by brick to make sure that our people will have an opportunity to showcase their talent, instruct those who want to learn and be a helping hand for fellow creatives that deserve recognition and acknowledgment for their gifts.
