Meet Brittany Carney of Tiny Mum Photography in League City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Carney.

Brittany, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The more I think about it, the more I realize photography has always been a part of my life. When I was little, my dad would develop the disposable cameras I quickly used up and stare in amazement at the kinds of photos of sunsets and nature I had taken.

I took film photography in early college and I jumped right on the Instagram bandwagon when that began. I’ve thoughtfully curated my personal feed since day 1.

After I had my daughter, it became an absolute priority to capture her growth and change on a daily basis. She became my muse and I haven’t stopped since she was born.

I took an interest first in children and families and soon fell in love with irreplaceable moments like wedding vows and birth stories. Every one of those moments is just as special to someone as my daughter’s life is to me. Being able to record and give that to someone is endlessly fulfilling.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say the road has been challenging. Technically, I learned quickly and easily (as one will when they’re particularly excited about something!). Creating the tone and mood of photos is an endless and welcome challenge! Working with clients is fun and mostly effortless because of my extroversion.

My largest struggle is simply balancing business with my life. Time management is key!

Tiny Mum Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My business is very people centered. I love getting to know my clients and using our relationship to create personal stories for them. Whether it’s a wedding day, a family session or the birth of a child, I’m primarily focused on intimate details, candid moments, and all the emotion I can harness into an image.

I get told often by clients that they LOVE the candids I captured and that they didn’t even realize I was around when that moment occurred. I try very much to be a fly on the wall when necessary. It’s difficult to be non-intrusive within a personal moment and I think we have that down to a science.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There have been so many shining moments!

Booking my first wedding felt like a giant accomplishment and so has every one since then. Having a couple ask you to document such a beautiful day is so rewarding. Being in the room when a baby is brought into the world is equally as rewarding.

I would say my proudest moment was photographing my first same sex wedding and subsequently being featured in Texas Love Wins. I’m so passionate about LBGTQ rights and I’m so happy couples are free to marry who they love!
