Meet Brittany King of She Beats It in Richmond/Rosenberg

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany King.

Brittany, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a recovering career coach… I say recovering because although I had reached some modicum of success by the world’s standards as a career coach, I didn’t really enjoy it. I have been in the Human Resources field for just about ten years. From this experience, I launched my career coaching business to help women land their dream jobs. Although the business was successful, I kept feeling a prompting that it was time to do something different, but it was hard to leave the financial success of the business so I held on for a few more months. That was until I found a lump in my breast in July of 2018. On August 20, 2018, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. A cancer diagnosis has a way of putting EVERYTHING in perspective and I knew that I had to pursue the calling God has on my life. No longer did I ascribe to the belief that I’d get to it later as I became astutely aware that I am living on borrowed time. Being diagnosed with cancer made me come face to face with the brevity of life and gave me a desire to “seize the day”. Although we are all dying (regardless of whether or not we have a serious illness) the question I began to ask myself is this: are you living?

So I decided to live fully. As I began an aggressive treatment regimen, I also began working on my current business, the She Beats It Podcast. The podcast was born from my desire to beat cancer, but also from my desire to give women who are facing the trials of life inspiration and hope as they “beat the odds by the grace of God.” My podcast launched on April 2nd, 2019, the day before I underwent extensive surgery to remove the cancer from my body. However, it’s more than just a podcast, it’s a movement. On the podcast, I share stories of real women beating the odds in life and business. A new episode is launched weekly on Wednesdays and they rotate every other week between interview style episodes and solo episodes I do myself. As I move forward, I plan to begin launching courses, doing more speaking engagements, and providing workshops for women who are looking for hope.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I am a firm believer that when you decide to walk in alignment with the calling God has on your life all hell breaks loose. And I mean that literally. There are many days when I don’t want to continue doing the podcast because it’s just too hard (and those days come often and without warning). With no experience in audio engineering or anything of the sort, figuring out how to podcast has been very challenging. Also, between chemotherapy that made me terribly ill and the exhaustion of trying to retain some sense of normalcy as a single mom to two daughters, there were many days that I wanted to throw in the towel. The road has been paved with struggles, but I have made up in my mind to use those struggles as motivation to keep pushing. I recognize that this business is bigger than me and that nothing worth having comes easy. So I persist with grit and grace.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with She Beats It – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
She Beats It is a community bringing together women from all walks of life who are determined to beat the odds by the grace of God. Currently, we use podcasting to share the love of Christ and the hope of Christ. We are known for our unique balance of being real (not “churchy”) and offering concrete strategies on how to navigate the trials of life. I am most proud of the way that the podcast has impacted so many women. I often receive messages from women who have been brought to tears by the podcast, or who received so much encouragement that they decided to persevere. This is the most rewarding part for me.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In the future, we are going to bring the podcast to life by doing workshops and conferences for women. In addition, I’ll be launching a series of on demand courses and masterclasses for women. We have a few other things in the works that we are keeping under wraps for now, so make sure to stay connected with us and follow our journey!
