Brittany, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story starts like this, we previously had a small, older home and one day I looked around and said: “I need to decorate this place!” After decorating and redecorating…and redecorating again, I gave up and officially hated interior design. My method in the store was usually feeling overwhelmed, and buying a bunch of stuff and praying for the best when I got home. Fast forward a year later, I had some God sent people to come to my aid to help me figure out interior design. Simple techniques and tips that helped me navigate MY STYLE. It was perfect timing since we were building our very first home, and I had the chance to start from scratch. Then my IG, ‘KingHomeofTexas,’ was born. From the building process, to moving in, living life here, and showing how I purchased and chose each item and styled them. I show my wins… And even my decor fails haha!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say there were challenges or struggles besides my hubby questioning all the Wayfair and hobby lobby purchases haha!! I feel like now I have a handle on what my style truly is, and I always have to remember not everyone will like it. And that’s okay! I do occasionally, however, struggle with my own insecurities. Instagram is full of stunning homes, and sometimes you wonder if your content is good enough, if my HOME is good enough? But I shut that down real quick, and remember this is MY STYLE and I love it.
Please tell us about your work.
I wouldn’t call myself a business, but more of a regular girl mom who stumbled onto a love for interior design, and figured out you don’t HAVE to pay tons of money or be an expert. I love my new friends on IG I’ve made, and the community that adopted me in with love, I’m inspired daily! This whole decor thing can be scary and intimidating, and my goal is to make it fun and easy to follow!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
CONSISTENCY. Posting and engaging on IG with big pages and small ones. There are hidden decor gems all over IG, and many took a chance of me! I’ve had to continue to be a student and even learn photography and editing skills! Making sure I’m presenting my home in the best way possible! One other aspect that’s so important to me to convey is that even the most beautiful home is nothing without PRESENCE. What I mean by that, is God’s presence in a home, which means safety, love, compassion, understanding, and more love! How someone feels entering your home, and how they feel leaving it, means a great deal of importance to me. There is a few words you see when you walk into my home that say in antique gold: “always come home” and I mean that, always feel safe and comfortable to come back here and be LOVED.
