Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Moss, Briana Hubbard, and Karena Zolner.

Hi Brittany, Briana, and Karena, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Beauty, health, wellness, and helping others. Those were our criteria for our next step in life. We always wanted to open a business and had explored so many options. We had no idea what finding some breathing space in 2019 would do to the course of our lives. It was a getaway, a short interlude in Tulum.

Tulum is a world-renowned destination. Coveted by globe-trotters seeking to recapture and replenish their soul, mind, and body. Pristine waters, a tropical vibe, and ancient cultures unite in an oasis of relaxation.

We discovered that the ancient Mayans were scientists, scholars, creators, and healers. They constructed pyramids, reservoirs, and causeways. They were knowledgeable in astrology and mathematics—a genuinely ingenious society that valued beauty and art.

The word “Tulum” means wall. It refers to the 16-foot-thick wall that surrounds the town. We learned the wall kept worldly troubles and problems outside and protected healing within.

We sought comfort at one of the most exclusive spas in Tulum, nestled away from all troubles. They spoke of integrating the healing of mind, body, and spirit. We discovered how vitality, balance, youthfulness, and self-confidence flow when restoring the whole person.

The experience was sublime. We wanted to make that feeling of peace and oneness last forever. We had to bring it with us. And here we are. Your own Tulum is right here in Houston, with personal access to the latest science, nature, and well-being. We welcome you to discover Tulum Wellness Spa.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh gosh, opening a business during Covid was definitely not easy. We had multiple delays, permitting was a mess and there have been supply chain issues. We’re just really thankful for the support of the neighborhood and our amazing team, both have made the journey worthwhile. -Karena Zolner

We all knew we would encounter some speed bumps along the way and we weren’t wrong! I think the most frustrating thing was the decline in production of so many of the items we needed to complete construction. We had to press the pause button multiple times. That being said, there were lessons learned and also opportunities to focus on other components of the business during delays. The silver lining is experiencing all the highs and lows with these ladies. Couldn’t be more grateful for them! -Briana Hubbard

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Lake Charles Louisiana so my after school activities consisted of fishing and crabbing with my dad and twin sister! As I got older I was always involved in every sport through out my senior year in High School. I was always a very outgoing person who loved to be around others and just always on the go! My passion for Holistic Nutrition and preventative wellness as a career started before my freshman year in college and I haven’t looked back. I absolutely love the wellness space and helping others feel their absolute best. — Brittany Moss

I’m the oldest of 3 children and was born in Southern California and we spent a lot of time at the beach! I always wanted to be outside playing and swimming in the ocean or pool. Being the oldest, I really enjoyed taking care of my siblings and young cousins and this is where my drive for Nursing came from! I also have a long history of asthma and allergies that kept me out of recess and in the Nurse’s office instead. Those experiences are deeply woven into the passion for health and wellness that I have and share with my family today. -Briana Hubbard

I was a little punk rock chick in the Midwest who loved board sports, nature and anything to do with water. I remember sneaking out of school to go snowboarding and learning to climb a pyramid for the water ski team. I began working in hospitality until I learned about the spa industry and fell in love with esthetics after attending Aveda in Minneapolis. 20 years later, it’s exciting to reminisce about my path in this industry, beginning as an aesthetician, then educator, rep and manager. As a single mom, I love that my daughter has watched me evolve and accomplish so many things. In turn she’s grown up to be a strong independent woman who wants to help people. We both love helping people, and in this industry I’m able to do that every day. –Karena Zolner
