Meet Brittney B. Hernandez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney B. Hernandez.

Brittney, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
You can absolutely say photography was my passion early in life! Growing up, it was rare that you found me without my Polaroid camera. Back then, my subjects were my stuffed animals and barbies! My Oma was probably my biggest influence because she had a house full of pictures and would always carry a camera around with her snapping pictures of my siblings and me. The passion continued into high school and I loved capturing the Homecoming and Sports events as a part of the Yearbook staff. Obviously, this was prior to the digital days, but the film era required me to really push my trial and error and learn the settings on my camera even with more. The passion for photography only grew with the different advancements of technology and the digital era and pushed me to learn by trial and error even more so. It wasn’t until my second child came along that I really felt the push to turn my passion into a full-time job. I’ve had the opportunity to grow my business, slow and steady and continued to teach myself as much as I can as the technology continues to grow and change.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’m extremely proud of the rather bumpy road to get my business where it currently is. Looking back at some of my early work and remembering the trial and error it took to grow it to where it is now is something that makes me really proud of how far I’ve come. The challenges and trial and error helped me learn what I like and what I didn’t, and ultimately helped me develop my own style. The biggest challenge has been the advancements in photography and its availability to everyone! Trying to keep my experience different and my end product unique is something I’m constantly working on. I rely so heavily on the relationship aspect with my growth, anyone can snap a picture and use a filter but I try my best to offer a full experience for you. I treat each session differently and ultimately remind myself of how much I’m still learning. It keeps me on my toes and constantly wanting to learn and improve.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
What I love most about photography and what I try my best to do is blend in and let my subjects feel comfortable. Candid moments and real laughter is my fuel! Lifestyle photography has quickly become a new favorite of mine and being able to come into a family’s home and capture them in their own element is a new absolute blast for me—and them! Other than that, my work centers around families. My favorite part of my job is working hard to connect with my clients, I’ve been so fortunate in my business to have so many returning customers who I’ve been able to capture throughout their milestones, engagement, maternity, newborn, cake smash—and it’s that relationship that gives me the passion to continue. Capturing milestones for families is priceless.

What were you like growing up?
I’m the oldest and only girl of four siblings. Our family always took lots of videos and pictures. So, I know thats where it all started for me. Especially seeing them all now as an adult. It makes you appreciate all those moments.

I was definitely never shy in front of the camera. I wish now I could be in front of it more with my family but someone has to be able to take all those great shots right?

Like I said before, it was just fun for me to have my own camera as a kid and set up my own fun little shoots.
I grew up playing sports, loving NKOTB, Trolls and whatever retro stuff was in those days.

I think it’s pretty great that so much of it is coming back. My husband even got me the newest Polaroid for Christmas. That brings back some fun memories for me that I’m using more now in my studio with the clients that have been with me for a while now.

I grew up a happy kid and very family oriented. It plays a big role in my life now. Being married 12 years, a mother of three sporty kids and an aunt to five nieces and nephews. There are lots of moments I lived as a kid that comes back as a parent now and I think it’s absolutely awesome to be able to share it all with the ones I love.
