Meet Bryan Carroll of Athletic Intelligence and the Cure

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Carroll.

Bryan Carroll is a father, a son, a brother, and a motivator. He is also a community organizer, an educator, a youth and educational consultant, an author, a behavioral specialist, and the future owner of an early childhood learning center. Bryan has always been dedicated to serving his community in many capacities and has continued to do so as a citizen of Houston, TX. He was born in Killeen, TX, and raised in Baltimore, MD – a place known for its violence and poverty. Baltimore is where he developed a passion to serve others. He graduated from Randallstown High School in Baltimore County before attending Grambling State University to play football and later transferring to Louisiana Tech University to finish up his college football career. Bryan was an All State Football and Baseball player in High School. After college Bryan went on to play in the Arena Football league for a few years.

He just recently authored a children’s book entitled “Super Sharing”. He develops “coming of age” curriculums and mentoring programs like Athletic Intelligence, a program which provides life skills, athletic training, college prep, and coaching to young athletes. He also founded a non-profit, entitled Community Under Reconstruction through Education (CURE). A larger organization that seeks to infuse youth to be strong mentally, socially, emotionally, and academically; specializing in diverse intellectual and physical activities and training programs related to human development.

He is currently serving as a behavioral specialist and teacher in Houston while running an educational consultant firm. I’m also working to open an early childhood education center that will focus on building foundational literary skills. Bryan has and hopes to continue to advocate on the behalf of underserved youth.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not smooth at all but adversity truly builds character and rewires your brand to thrive and grow. I always let it make me not break me. High school: Being a highly sought after recruit in football but falling victim to not handling my business in the classroom and having to take an alternative route but still getting my football scholarship.

College: getting dropped off in Louisiana where I knew no one but I had a goal so I was all in. The pain doesn’t necessarily come when you don’t get what you want but when you feel powerless and you shouldn’t. Starting to really excel as a freshman on the team and the future looks extremely bright them BOOM. Im physically assaulted by a coach and knocked unconscious. I felt so isolated and alone. You definitely find out who your friends are when the unimaginable happens. I went from staring at the stars at night knowing im on the path to live out my dream in the NFL to taking calls from top lawyers in the state willing to work pro bono for the easy cash out regarding my case. I just wanted to live the normal college life.

Little did I know that event would completely change the trajectory of my career. Let’s rewind about a year previous to being assaulted. I met a man that changed my life. The most remarkable man I’ve ever met that helped me become the man I am today, Pastor Jerry Baldwin. I was blessed to see a well-rounded family man that love God his wife, his children and his community and he was relentlessly pursuing greatness. For once sports wasn’t everything and my life had changed. Of course, I thought to transfer to one of the schools that recruited me out of high school but I couldn’t leave the support system I had as I was growing so much. I decided to transfer to nearby Louisiana Tech and I was subjected to barriers and trials unimaginable but that birthed in me the resilience perspective and drive to overcome anything thrown my way.

Post college: played arena football excelled and started experiencing injuries that prevented me from staying healthy and maximizing my talent and elevating to the next level. The lifestyle in one leg in one leg and PTSD post-traumatic sports syndrome. Having an identity of being an athlete so long and having to manage life without it and missing opportunities from injuries became very disheartening and hard to deal with.

New chapter: Becoming a father, addressing life’s traumas and daddy issues and learning the purest form of love. Learning how to be vulnerable and opening up my mind to endless possibilities. No longer being limited and marginalized but being limitless. I’ve begun to think like an entrepreneur and write children’s books and motivate and empower people through my speaking and theories regarding education and youth empowerment.
