Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan-Keyth Wilson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved from NYC in 2002 and life after 9-11 was very scaring living in NYC coming from La Marque, TX. When I got back to Texas I began to work in artists management for a Houston based talent agency and helped mold the careers of young budding pop stars. Having a degree in musical theatre I wanted to try working in another area in the performing arts. After traveling and meeting so many people in the entertainment industry I realized that I had a love for teaching young artists. I became a high school dance team director and often worked with the theatre department.
After 12 years in the classroom, the school that I worked for (La Marque High School) was going to be annexed and I knew that my road in the classroom had come to an end. I wanted to continue the legacy we were starting with my dance team and offer an outlet for young girls of color to experience dance and other fine arts. I wanted to make the arts accessible to a community that was void of culture! So I started Artists In Motion!
Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely has not been a smooth road. Anytime you’re opening a small business you have the deck stacked against you. There are many naysayers who don’t want to see you succeed. It took us a year to figure out our brand and business model. There were many people who started with us and left but it is with prayer and dedication to these students that I remained in the game and forged ahead. There are many growing pains but we work it out with our students as our primary focus!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Artists In Motion Performing & Visual Arts Academy – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Artists in Motion Performing & Visual Arts Academy is fully devoted to providing artists of all ages and ethnicities an encouraging environment where they are given the opportunity to grow and excel in their fine arts education. We aim to provide high-quality instruction at an economical price point. We strive to deliver the highest quality of training while nurturing each student’s unique gift, talent and creativity. Our plight is to bridge the gap between the Galveston County community and the arts community. We wish to encourage our students to achieve their fullest potential – to support them as they grow artistically/ academically, and develop into well-rounded individuals – nourished in body, mind and spirit.
Our grouping of classes helps develop a well-rounded foundation in dance and theatre. All of our students who enroll in this class need to understand the high rigor and expectation of this class. There will be monthly assessments in these classes to document each student’s progress. Combining genres of dance, this class will develop your child’s coordination as well as an understanding of dance concepts and terminology.
PRIVATE ACTING:
One on one training with one of our highly trained acting instructors. Centered around technique and (30 Minutes).
Our Theatre/ Musical Theatre program is designed to excite the imagination and to develop acting skills through performance. Through preparing for two performances during the studio year, the students will take their performance skills to the next level. Our enthusiastic young students will have the opportunity to work and study with teachers who encourage and stimulate the creative process.
Additionally, these classes offer an excellent opportunity for students to work in a group setting. AIMPVA teaches the basic techniques of breath support and proper stance while encouraging the students to sing expressively and with confidence while preparing for productions.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that everything is within a 2-minute drive. I used to live in NYC and everything was accessible and this is what I love about Houston! I HATE THE TRAFFIC AND THE HEAT!
