Meet Camisha Lemons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camisha Lemons.

Camisha, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a licensed attorney, certified mediator, and owner of The Law Office of Camisha Lemons. While I would love to tell you some fairy tale dream that “I’ve always known that I wanted to be a lawyer,” that’s definitely not the case here.

I shared love and interest in the law and government, but I didn’t think nor did I know that I would pursue it full time and find my calling there. For the majority of my life, I have been a technically trained dancer and dance instructor; I even obtained my Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance & Dance Education, with a minor in Government. The thought of law school came and went often, but it wasn’t solidified until while performing with a dance company I was apart of, we came into a gross breach of contract with the venue that left us in a helpless and vulnerable position.

As I watched everything unfold, I thought “Why isn’t there someone who can advocate for us?” “How different would the outcome have been?” At that moment, I decided that I never wanted myself or anyone else to be forced into that place of helplessness or vulnerability again if I could help it! Enter Law School… probably the three of the most challenging but fun years of my life… Graduate… Take the Bar… Pass the Bar… Land Dream Job… the rest is history! NOT. I wanted to work for a law firm before branching out on my own, but clearly, God has another plan for my life.

After about a year of supplemental work and unsuccessful interviews… in 2013, I decided to step out of faith and use the skill set I was taught and the God-given talent I possessed to have my own shingle. It was a bit scary and has required much discipline, sacrifice, blood, sweat, and tears but it has been most rewarding in being an advocate for those who don’t have a voice or believe that their voice matters or those creatives who simply want to pursue their big dreams, or those who want to ensure their families are protected.

Aside from the practice of law, I still make time for my first love of Dance by serving as the leader of the Praise Dance Ministry of my church community, The Genesis Church, and volunteering as a dance instructor and mentor throughout the year with Virtuous Star, Inc., a wonderful non-profit organization for young girls in the Houston area. Also, as an advocate for health and wellness, I am an ambassador for Plexus Worldwide.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has most definitely not been a smooth one; as with all things, there will be challenges and difficulties along the way. However, I’ve found that faith, resilience, perseverance, and self-confidence can take you much further than you ever imagined you could go. This is what I’ve learned firsthand.

Some of the struggles I’ve encountered started early before encountering the practice of law…I did not pass the bar on the first try; not even the second try; as the saying goes, “Third time’s the charm.” Believe it or not, this is something that I was extremely ashamed of-however, I came to find out that my story could encourage and inspire someone else if I could just be bold enough to tell. I realized that if I didn’t have the strength to keep pushing and believe in myself, why would anyone else (or a future client) chose to believe in me.

At that moment, I decided to be my OWN advocate; to be the biggest cheerleader I ever had. I told myself, “Camisha this is for you, you can do this, and you will do this. God has never left your side and He certainly will not now. Push for your dream, no matter how tired and frustrated you are. The time is now.”

Faith. Resilience. Perseverance. Self Confidence. If anyone were to ask me how I have pushed through and continued to push, that’s what I would tell and encourage them to do. Even in times, where I’ve actually had the nerve to doubt that I wanted to continue in as a sole practitioner, I PUSH. Not only for me but for my husband and son. For the women who doubt themselves. For the little girl who is unsure and needs to know that she can dream big and out loud.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I am the Owner of The Law Office of Camisha Lemons. My virtual boutique firm provides legal services in Business, Wills & Probate, and Real Estate/Property, as well as mediation.

I am most proud that I am in a position to advocate for my clients and guide them from start to finish through whatever legal issue, need or concern they may have.

The thing that sets me apart is that I do not just view my clients as another “check” but that I take time to foster relationship, let them know that I am genuinely concerned about what concerns them, and my resolve to get results.
