Meet Candice Lovett of Plucked in West Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Lovett.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well, I am originally from Forest , MS. I am the only girl of four siblings shared between my parents. Throughout my childhood my mom encouraged me to get an education along with working hard for whatever I wanted. No matter what project or idea that budded in my head, she has always been supportive. As a little girl, I found myself intrigued about fashion and art. I would spend hours in my room sketching a full line of dresses complete with accessories. At that time, I dreamed of opening my own formal wear boutique filled with formal gowns.

Instead of taking that dream and going to an art school, I attended and obtained my bachelor of Business Administration degree at Mississippi State University (Hail State!) Close to my last year in college, I picked up a habit of doodling flowers with funky personalities, huge lips, and teeth. I assumed it was my way of clearing my mind from my studies but I would later find out that those doodles would be t-shirt designs for Plucked.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been the easiest or smoothest becoming the person that I needed to be in order to bring my dream to fruition.

Being fired from my first job as a Sales Manager was a mental struggle because I gave everything within me to influence success in the company I worked for. Now that I look back, I realized that even though it hurt, the pain was necessary. I vowed to put that same energy into my own company whenever the time was right. When the time came, I still wasn’t ready!!

At the start of 2018, I decided take the leap to start my business in my hometown and landed on my face. I moved without consulting God or receiving the confirmation that was required. My last night in my hometown, I prayed and cried out to God, “If you open doors for me to move back to Texas, I will not take any opportunity for granted.” A year later on the anniversary of my last day in Mississippi, I launched Plucked. I had close to $100 in presales before the actual launch. That may be a small number to a lot of people but it was all I needed to continue believing in myself.
With that same year, I launched my blog, The Chocolate Lily Blog and a consulting business called, Hello Candy.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Plucked is a faith based t-shirt and accessories company created to inspire a lifestyle that is filled with purpose, dopeness, and acceptance. Although we sold over $300 of my products within the first two weeks of launching, the goal of Plucked is to transform as many people as I can.
Two important elements of my designs are:

1. Flowers- they’re the best representation of being reborn. Throughout the seasons they bloom and die based on their environment. As a person of faith I’ve found myself dying to past versions of myself and being reborn to a better version of myself.

2. 2C517 – 2 Corinthians 5:17 (Go read this scripture lol)

Most importantly, one the definitions of Plucked is “determined and spirited courage”. My faith in God and his large presence in my life has inspired me to be an influencer of love and liberation. What sets Plucked apart from other brands is the fact that it’s more than just brand, it’s a feeling.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Houston is the best place to start a company. There are so many people here along with networking opportunities to assist you along the way.

One of the biggest opportunities that really aided in the success of my business was the company that I work for. It allows you to have an amazing work/life balance to allow for the time needed to build and maintain a business. In order to be the best leader, you have to learn how to be the best follower.
