Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Ulloa.
Carlos, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After graduating college from the Gerald D Hines School of Architecture, University of Houston, I started working for a local builder; it was my introduction to residential work and immediately fell in love with the idea of a house, as it embodies and thrives as the true sense of the word “home”.
I worked as a designer and project manager for a mid-size residential firm form 1995 thru 2005 after which I started Ulloa Design Group with a small loan from my Mom and a vision to do a residential design + build firm that could truly focus on quality rather than quantity….. for us, any home or small project should be inspirational, captivating, and elegantly functional to allow you to truly love how you’ve always wanted to live. It’s hard to believe that was over 12 years ago, and here we are today!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
residential design and build has it’s challenges especially dealing with clients and project management and always trying to do something unique; we pride our designs that we have never repeated a plan; every project is unique and tailored to our clientele. Having managed over the construction of over 100 townhouses and a few dozen custom homes there are always building challenges that must be met, but I believe having our approach in taking pride in every single project, no matter how small or large, we have managed to always stay on top of scheduling and project designs.

Whether a client is looking for a brand new custom-designed home, a renovation that completely redesigns their existing home, a master bathroom or a kitchen remodel, an inviting outdoor space for family time, a wine room, or an exterior landscaping and lighting upgrade… we are the right design + build company.
I’m very proud of the fact that we now have over 2 decades of experience building in Greater Houston, Ulloa Design Group is always looking for the opportunity to surpass our client’s expectations in knowledge, professionalism, craftsmanship, and timeliness. We put our passion towards perfection, and I believe our projects show this.
I believe that we are set apart from others because even though we specialize in inventing modern spaces, we also can fuse together design elements from many architectural styles, ensuring any client’s final design is unique and tailored purposefully for them.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe that attentiveness to our client’s needs will always set all other parameters in line and provide a successful project.
Pricing:
- All design work is quoted based on the project, but for a standard home, our cost fee schedule is $4.00 x sq ft of all area under roof.
