Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassandra Seybold.
Cassandra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started Twisted Memory Lane out of love for my daughter, wanting her to grow up seeing the world through different perspectives, angles, and ideas. Photography has been a passion of mine for years, so it made sense for me to make a living doing something that inspires me to inspire my daughter to open her eyes and see the great things a camera can capture. It’s been a bumpy ride, but so far so good. It’s still a learning process, talking to clients, being terrified that they’ll hate the photos you’ve taken, or wishing you can get that one honey shot. We are a mobile photography company, so essentially we come to your desired location with props and gear in tow and set up and create the scene for you and your loved ones. Now a days every one is a photographer, cell phones kind of killed the art of photography…so old school shoots gives it nostalgia that hopefully some people miss.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s not always a smooth rode. The biggest struggle is people wanting awesome pictures, but not willing to pay for a quality service. I mean why pay for someone to come and take pictures when you have a cell phone that can take decent photos and you have instant gratification in your hand, whereas, a professional photographer needs some processing time…so the wait is what is a deterrent for some people.
Twisted Memory Lane – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a professional mobile photography company. We specialize in concept art with family/loved ones involved in the art process, and your typical photography as well. We are known for being mobile, instead of you going to meet at a studio, we bring the studio to you. I am most proud of my company for being sensitive to the struggle of a single parent wanting photos of their children, but not having the extra cash to set up a booking or sitting fee. Our kids are the ones who are going to make this world a better place…so it’s good to show compassion, and understanding…I pride myself on that…of course every company is successful after money is made, but I look at our reasonable prices for each photo package and think to myself that I’d be able to afford it on my budget.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment, was when I landed my first paying gig, and how excited my 5 year old was for me. That was the best part about being a photographer…getting paid to do what you love to do the most.
