Meet Charlene Jean-Pierre

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlene Jean-Pierre.

Charlene, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
One morning, at the age of 25, I looked in the mirror and didn’t recognize the person staring back at me. I had no idea who she was even though I had lived with this face for my whole life. On paper, I was a young, independent college-educated registered nurse by the age of 21 and a homeowner by the age of 22. I was traveling the world, growing in my faith and out here living my best life. But deep inside… I was so miserable, frustrated, discontented, purposeless and deeply depressed. While successful by the world’s standards, I was unfulfilled internally– simply existing, working to pay bills, but not really living. Although only four years into a promising nursing career, I was at a major crossroads–at the height of a major depression and mental breakdown–that had taken its toll on me. In the midst of the challenges I was experiencing on my job, with my faith, and in my finances, I was also just getting out of a very toxic relationship that nearly broke me.

In the midst of that deep dark pit of depression, God met me there and He began to reveal parts of my purpose to me. After completing a year of therapy and doing some personal inner healing, I wanted and needed a fresh start. I made the decision to move to Maryland and to enroll in graduate school. It was here, while pursuing a dual graduate degree, that I really began to discover the woman God had created me to be and got introduced to coaching. It seemed like an accident at first, but now I know that it was a divine set-up to get me to where I am today. I decided to pursue my certification in life coaching while in school as well as a separate certification as an Intelligent Behavior coach. Coaching was so personally transformational for me.

It helped me to move forward in my purpose and the vision God had given me, including publishing my first book in 2018 titled, P.R.A.Y.: Purse Righteousness and Yield, where I share more of my purpose journey. As the vision became more clear to me, I realized that I had to share my story in another way. Helping others and serving people is in my DNA. I knew that I was called to serve others in a larger capacity outside of the healthcare field. I realized I now had a responsibility to come alongside other women to tell them that they, too, had purpose. I wanted to help them discover and then begin walking boldly in their purpose so they could make a positive generational and global impact in the world around them.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to walking in my purpose was far from smooth. I lost a cousin who was a year younger than me the year prior to me moving to Maryland. In addition to that, when I had finally arrived in Maryland, I faced several major struggles: damage to my home in Georgia, a reduction in force on my job, a union grievance, another failed relationship, broken familial relationships and a serious health diagnosis just to name a few. Yet, all of these challenges are what helped to develop my endurance and strengthen my faith.

Please tell us about your work.
I am the co-managing partner of Life More Abundantly Coaching. I believe every person was designed ON purpose, FOR purpose and WITH purpose. It’s my mission to help them uncover what it is. As a Life Purpose & Strategy Coach, I help women in life transitions who feel disconnected, purposeless, stagnant and unfulfilled reconnect with God and the woman she was created to BE so that she can begin doing the things she was called to DO and LIVE the more abundant life she was already destined to live. I coach women around three primary areas: Faith, Purpose & Relationships. I also create courses, speak, teach, blog and facilitate workshops on several topics: Women’s Health, Life Purpose, Faith, Motivational/Spiritual Gifts, Natural Beauty, Identity, and Healthy Boundaries/Relationships. One of the things that sets Life More Abundantly Coaching apart is our unique approach and commitment in coaching women from a holistic perspective. As a nurse for almost 17 years, I understand the importance and value of addressing the whole person–mind, body and spirit–and how one area automatically impacts the other areas.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I once thought success was defined by how much money you made, your title, position, possessions, degrees and/or your achievements. However, after having to face many challenges which taught me what was really important, I see success very differently. The qualities that I feel are most important to success is obedience to the Lord and His Word and faith. I recognize there is no success outside one’s relationship with the Lord which is developed through having faith in Christ.
