Meet Charles Baldwin of CHB Photography in North Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Baldwin.

Charles, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Believe or not, I never set out to become a photographer. What started my journey into it was the birth of my daughter. I knew I wanted to capture her memories as she grew, and as most know, cell phones don’t always create the best of quality when it comes to photos. Therefore, I sought out a “legit” camera and ended up taking courses to learn how to shoot like professionals. Once I became pretty decent and would post photos of my daughter, the inquiries started: “can you take my kid’s photos also? Can you take my family pictures? Can you give me some headshots?” One thing leads to another and here I am today.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If anyone who is successful tells you their journey was smooth, I’d be skeptical in believing them. Entrepreneurs at times may “portray” meteoric rise to success, but if you pull back the curtain you will see the trial and tribulations of that process. As a photographer, there were nights I wanted to throw in the towel and sell my camera from feeling like I would never achieve the quality of images I ultimately wanted. But having to remind myself that anything worth having is worth working for, I knew I had to show patience and realize that Rome wasn’t built in one day. Eventually, with persistence and putting my horse blinders on, I was able to be happy with the direction I’ve been heading.

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am the owner of CHB Photography as the lead photographer who does photos for:

Portraits (Specialty and most known for):
Weddings
Headshots
Events

What makes me proud are the “perpetual memories” I create, as I like to call them. Being able to show my clients what they may have not known what was inside of them all along, bringing out the ultimate confidence that makes them feel great, or the best which is seeing tears of joy from what they call “capturing the perfect moment.”

I think what sets me apart is the “service” side of photography. Initially, upon arrival of a client’s session, I want to make them as comfortable as possible, so I ask questions and find out:

If they would like music playing to relax?
Are they comfortable with close up interaction, or should I shoot their portraits at a distance?
Would you like to consult for 15 minutes prior to your session to ensure we’re on the same page?

Any photographer can simply “snap” a photo, but what you do with that photo, and what you do leading up to that photo ultimately will separate you.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Qualities for my success in my photography:

Professionalism (whether friend or stranger I’m providing the same Grade A services).

Transparency (ensuring the clients know up front what their experience will consist of).

Punctuality (being able to have a quick turnaround on my services).

Relationship building (once you’ve signed up for CHB Photography I’m building that rapport that creates that comfort and happiness the same of someone you’ve known for years).
