Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Van Dyke.
Charles, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been doing pressure washing for four years now and decided this year, 2017 that going into business for myself would be the right move because of my knowledge, experience and overall skill set in this area. I have never favored working for somebody, so going into business for myself seemed like the only route to my happiness, and so far it seems I’m on the right path. Aside from my experience, I have my son to thank for my motivation. Without him I would not be me, and possibly would lack the inspiration for starting my own business. He is everything to me, and everything I do is for him. I just want him to always see the drive in me, because he looks up to me so much, and I want to teach him how to me the man he wants to be, instead of a man people want him to be.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road, but I don’t believe any successful business can honestly tell you that in the beginning it was ever a smooth road. It takes that struggle, that period of time of being broke and your business not doing good for you to really test yourself if you are prepared to going to business for yourself. There are some people may not have it in them and will decide to going work for somebody else. I cannot see myself doing that, I’m still in the beginning stages of my company, and I’m nowhere near close to quitting even though I currently still experience some struggles in my company, but nothing I can’t overcome. Hey big motivation for me is my son Jay, he is 10 years old and he is everything to me. I am Single father and have been for some time, so he drives me and my motivation and helps me overcome struggles just by being him.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Black Tie Pressure Washers – what should we know?
My company specializes in Quality pressure washing and window cleaning. I’m known for the detail of my work, and for the reasonable prices I can offer. What sets me apart from others is that I believe other companies are far too worried about overcharging customer so they can maximize profit as fast as they can, where my company believes that the quality of work is what will get my name out there. The thing I am most proud of my company is that I know every aspect of my company therefore if anything is going wrong I am able to fix it in an instant because I know what I’m doing, I’m very proud to say that I’m an expert and that my field.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel customer satisfaction and the quality of my work go hand-in-hand because without either of those I wouldn’t have any success.
