Today we’d like to introduce you to Chere’ Davis.
Hi Chere’, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a lifestyle photographer, and I’m very passionate about helping my clients capture life’s most precious memories. My goal is to provide photos that tell your story that will be cherished for a lifetime. I grew up in Houston and spent my summers at our second home on the Texas coast. I began to photograph bay and beach life along with the colorful people and treasures of the coast.
I left Houston to attend Sam Houston State University receiving a criminology degree. After a lengthy career in the criminal justice field as an adult probation officer and court officer, I turned my beloved hobby into the job of my dreams. Once married and after the birth of my son, I began family photography. Through the years, I took photos of friends and family at athletic and community events, county fairs, district and state horse shows, rodeos, and 4-H and FFA events as well.
I specialize in family, maternity, newborn, engagement, and bridal portraits. I also enjoy photographing high school and college graduations, special events, head shots, and much, much more!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting a business is never a smooth road. Creating a strong customer base and proving your abilities to establish yourself as an outstanding photographer is very important to gain client trust. Living in a small community such as Anderson often encourages me to expand my home base and reach out to my roots in Houston, San Antonio, Huntsville, and the rest of the Brazos Valley.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
The thing that sets me apart from other photographers is my creative side. I love exploring nature and finding new areas, things, and ideas to photograph. I have also been perfecting my skills as an underwater photographer. Traveling to many tropical destinations has afforded me this opportunity. I am constantly interested in learning new techniques in photography. I experiment with lighting, both natural and artificial, staging using props and locations to enhance my photography. I take watercolor classes as a hobby and use it as inspiration for my creative side. I have used some of the photography to paint in watercolor. I love all crafts and teach them to my granddaughters and use the girls as inspiration for my next photoshoot.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Starting a new business is always risky. An underrated risk of photography is location! I have found myself hanging off a bridge, lying in a field with unwanted insects, and dangling my pricey equipment in my backpack standing in water.
