Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Short and Planet A$E.
Chris and Planet A$E, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Born and raised in New Orleans, a city with a deeply rooted culture of violence, statistics would say that we was bound to be a product of our environment. What other choice would we have? The school systems are among the poorest in the country, and the city has the highest per capital murder rate in the country. Surely this will affect you in some manner. Most for the worst. But for us, the better. Growing up witnessing the struggle, which was our reality, We were determined to escape by any means necessary, and from an early age, music, and fashion was our escape. We grew around music our entire lives.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road along the way. We were caught up in a storm called Hurricane Katrina along the way. We came to Houston on a Chartered bus with little funds and had to bounce back. We had a lot of road bumps along the way that try to deprive us from our main goal which was to feed the people with our God-given talents. We stayed strong and continued to grind it out. Now look at us 14 years later. The main objective is to Stay down till the come up. It can get weary sometimes, but you gotta trust and believe that your vision shall come to past.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Our business is broken up in into two divisions: The music side and The merchandise side. Music: DAPLANETZ and Merchandise: Planet Gang.
We specialize on the music side with mainly a Hip Hop Genre and can be versatile with any genre of music. On the merchandise side we branch it off the music. Planet Gang is described as UNITY. Look at it like this: “We all are our little planets when we align we formed the universe. Basically is what the definition of the word planet is.
We’re most proud that we made it out of the city of New Orleans and became entrepreneurs on our own to help best feed our families.
What were you like growing up?
We grew up together. We’re actually best friends. We been rocking for like 20+ years now. So we basically kept everything in house. We both have unique personalities and are respected by many people that we come across.
