Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Smitty.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Having been born with Sickle Cell Disease, I’ve always had limitations on some of the things that I’m most passionate about, which are sports and fitness. It plagued me all of my life; mostly throughout my teenage years. It was one day that I committed to changing my life for the best after having one of the worst episodes to date. Learning about nutrition and the science of good health for myself, I would eventually become a personal trainer, inspiring and teaching others the importance and benefit of great health.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, the thing about Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is that it is a genetic blood disease that one is born with. So, for my entire life, it has limited me in many ways. It limits the production of oxygen within my blood making it more difficult to retain nutrients and minerals, leading to extremely intense pain, heart attack, stroke, and even death. This is a reality I live with daily despite my ambition to counter-punch it with good health and activity.
Please tell us about Aah Athletix.
Aah Athletix is not limited to any particular style of training. I’ve trained collegiate athletes, seniors, and everyone in between. Being that part of my training system is based online, I can reach anyone anywhere, anytime and create a program specific to each person’s needs. My clients will tell you that I’m very encouraging, a passionate motivator, and a teacher of things that relate to one’s best health. I’ve also taken a special interest in my fellow Sickle Cell carriers to help them deal with the mental and physical effects of this disease so that they may have achieved their best possible health.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory is watching my three big brothers compete in several sports both recreational and at higher levels. They were gladiators in my eyes and there was nothing that they could do that I didn’t at least try.
Inspired by their abilities, I’ve used that passion to continue competing and training, and those very few times that I beat them in anything are conversations that I never let them forget! Now I’m playing amateur men’s soccer in the Houston Football Association (HFA) creating new memories each season.
