Today we’d like to introduce you to Chrissy Burdsall.
Chrissy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been a full-time professional photographer for about 3 years now. I started my journey with photography about 6 years ago. I’m self-taught, so when I first started I wasn’t very good. I feel like with photography you can have a good eye, but there’s still a huge learning curve. I love that it challenges me and there’s always something new to learn or to work on.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing worthwhile is ever easy right? Photography is challenging and very rewarding.
For me it wasn’t just the struggle of teaching myself a new skill, it was starting my own business too. As a new mom, it was really scary to leave my job so that I could focus on what I love doing. I didn’t have a lot of support at first and it was hard convincing my family that this would pay off eventually.
Chrissy Burdsall – Visual Artist – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in high school senior portraits. I’ve always admired fashion photography but I also love working with people and being able to give them an experience and artwork they will treasure for years. Senior portraits let me combine fashion photography and a personalized experience. I love creating a shoot around my Senior’s personality and ideas. It’s fun to see their vision come to life.
I also specialize in providing high-quality products. Every single one of my clients leaves with a piece of artwork to display in their home. Seeing my Senior and their parents see their beautiful images for the first time is so rewarding for me. For the Senior it’s such a special milestone and for the parents its one more memory of their baby before they head out into the real world.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment so far has been watching my family and friends realize that I can start my own business and be successful. I’ve slowly gained their support and that means a lot. Sometimes you have to brave enough to take the leap yourself and everyone else will catch up. But its really nice when they do.
