Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Bates.
Christian, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started taking pictures in high school when I was 14. I was that person that always had a camera in my hand taking everyone’s pictures making short videos. I was the go to person to create you a flyer, design you a shirt and fix your myspace page… I moved to Houston from Beaumont, TX in 2013 transferring from Lamar University to Texas southern university, deciding to take a different route I left and pursued my own career in 2015 doing weddings, photography, and graphic designing.
2015, I created a couple of shows on YouTube Let Me Vent and A documentary entitled beyond the beard which did pretty well.
Now in 2019, I’m still in Houston with my husband Kevin and my daughter Kacey I’m pursing my first love and that’s film, I currently have a show on YouTube called MCEVERAFTER and I’m now in the works of season 2 of let me vent and a couple of short films and other projects in the works.
I’m currently saving to attend a local film production school and get my education on directing and producing.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been pretty smooth and rough. I originally quit my full-time job in Oct 2016 deciding my passion outweighed what I was doing everyday . Making about the same if not more on my own it has been going well. I took a decline in 2018 when I became pregnant with my daughter so that’s when I full pursued graphic designing until I could get back on my feet. Now I’m 2019 business has its ups and downs but God has always taken care of all my needs.
Struggles: depending on times of the year I may or may not get business, but it’s great that if I don’t have a wedding, Photoshoot or graphics to create I can always fall back on one of them when the other isn’t coming through.
Please tell us about Visual Perceptions.
Visual perceptions was originally foster girl productions from 2007-2017 And I decided to change it in 2018 to have a more professional appeal.
I specialize in wedding photography & video graphic design.
I’m most proud of is my ability to be a one stop shop for my clients. If you are building a brand you can have your photos done, logo created, commercial video, business cards all done here. And I like to make my customers feel comfortable and know that their business is appreciated and they aren’t just a business transaction. I like to give advice as well on marketing strategies and so forth.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have finished my film degree at Lamar University or educated my self more on trade schools for film and graphic designing.
