Meet Christina Allen of Christina Captures in Central and Greater Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Allen.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Christina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Originally from Oklahoma City, I began my photography business almost four years ago. I received a camera as a birthday gift and wanted to learn how to use it. This turned into me cold-calling any photographer in the OKC area looking for classes or mentor sessions. Only one photographer emailed me back, Peyton Byford, and she taught me the basics during our mentor session. From there, it was pretty much trial and error and lots of YouTube. I was begging my friends and family to let me shoot them for free to practice and build a portfolio. Things started to pick up, and the rest is history. My primary market is engagements, bridal portraits, branding photography and weddings.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not a smooth road. I was sneaking in jobs on the weekends and working all the time. I was so hard on myself for not having as many Instagram followers, or traveling as much as these photographers I would see on social media. I finally got to a place where I told myself that’s not why I liked doing this. I adjusted my perspective and realized that I do a good job and can provide people with precious memories, and that’s what I focus on now.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a photographer and focus on capturing those moments in time that people want to have forever. I would say I specialize in one thing, but the truth is, I specialize in people. I’ve found that I’m able to find a way to bring out genuine smiles and laughs with all my clients. I’m proud that I truly built a brand and a clientele from the ground up. I got my degree in Strategic Communication, so I know how to build a brand presence, but you never know if people are going to like your work. Especially something that’s so subjective to other ideas, opinions or points of view.

I think I’m different because I have hard business skills from working for corporate companies, and that help builds a primarily creative business. I don’t dread the boring stuff and can get more done because of it. I also connect well with others. I feel as if I’m able to help them feel comfortable and give the client confidence in front of the camera.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I’m looking forward to building my business here in Houston. I’m relatively new to the area and am excited about the many opportunities that come with a new city. I love trying new restaurants, and the food photography scene in Houston is something that I would like to get in on. There’s so much to try and see, and I can’t wait to do it all!
