Meet Christina Greene of Galleria

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Greene.

Christina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always had a love for all things fashion and while I dreamt of being involved in the industry in a professional capacity, I never really thought it would happen! My interest in jewelry started when I was in high school and enrolled in a jewelry making class. I started making a few things here and there for friends. I then when to TCU and developed an interesting in Fashion Marketing. I continued to pursue my interest at Parsons in New York. Here I got a great internship in the jewelry business. From there, I was hooked! I began getting to work right away sketching and designing!

When I returned to Houston in 2010, I started hand-making her own jewelry by pairing stone beads such as turquoise, amethyst, citrine and coral with gold plated chains purchased from local jewelry supply shows. I got her first big break at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo when a woman loved one of her necklaces so much, that she purchased it right off of my neck.

Today, what started out as sketches in drawing pads has become a successful jewelry collection retailing in over 60 boutiques worldwide and featured in numerous publications including British Vogue, Women’s Wear Daily, Houston Chronicle, and Texas Monthly.

Has it been a smooth road?
I wish I could say it has always been smooth, but in order to grow you have to adapt and face some adversity. What makes a successful business is how you over come these issues. The fashion industry is tough. Keeping up with trends, while remaining unique and different is a constant struggle. It is a balancing act that requires a lot of attention and constant changing. I look for inspiration every where I go as well as taking note of the classics. There have been times I have designed things that I thought would fly out the door but this isn’t alway the case. You have to wear many hats- one minute you are dealing with business matters the next you need to be creative. It has been hard at times but I really wouldn’t have it any other way. I have learned so much from the challenges I have faced.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
A one-of-a-kind collection, the Christina Greene jewelry line highlights the beauty of natural stones from all over the world. Each piece is designed in the company’s Houston, Texas studio and is crafted by a team of skilled artisans in Jaipur, India. Genuine semi- precious stones and 18K gold plating over hypoallergenic and nickel- free brass are just some of the high-quality hallmarks that go into Christina Greene jewelry.

The Turquoise we use is very unique to gold. Kingman Turquoise most commonly done in a silver setting. This is a fresh, modern take on a traditional style.

The gold work is also a staple to my line. While the textures vary between a hammered, brushed, and more, many customers distinctly know it is a Christina Greene piece.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Personally, Houston is one of the main reasons I have grown! It may not always seem that way but it really is important to get involved in as many opportunities as you can. Whether it is donating a piece to an auction or participating in a pop-up shop held by a local church all of these things make a difference and help build your clientele. Houston has a lot to offer! There are so many boutiques that have Fashion Shows and would love to host Trunk Shows. The Houston Nutcracker Market and Livestock and Rodeo Show have also been major attributes to my success. The people of Houston have been my biggest supporters since day one and I am so grateful they continue to support me. There are a lot of emerging designers here- get connected and stay connected. I love talking to fellow business owners!
