Meet Christina Sun

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Sun.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Since we started Sunchild six and a half years ago, we’ve understood our purpose more and more. We’ve become a shop where customers can find ethically and sustainably made lifestyle products even though we didn’t start this way. As we learned about the fashion industry waste and unsafe practices, we were compelled to support independent designers who held the same values as us.

Please tell us about your art.
We are an online retail shop. We focus on buying ethically and sustainably made lifestyle products (clothing, jewelry, shoes, bags). Our aesthetic is minimal and easy going. We believe each product our customer adds to their collection should be special, timeless, and worth keeping for years to come. We comb through designers, selecting only the ones that fit our mission and aesthetic.

What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
Small businesses are gaining more traction and support from local communities and the general population, but it is still hard to compete as the large companies get larger and more powerful. Large companies can offer free shipping, free returns, etc. but these things can really make a small business struggle. Because of these large companies, customers have come to expect these services for free and with discounts stacked on top of discounts. We do our best to compete by offering a unique mix of products, superior customer service, and other perks. Cities like ours can help small businesses survive by buying local. We can also continue to educate ourselves on how much it costs to run a business, so we can understand and be more willing to pay for quality.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
We’re open 24/7 online at shopsunchild.com!
