Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Wilkerson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I graduated from Waller High School in 2014, I headed to Stephen F. Austin State University where I played football for five years. During my time there, I started for four seasons after redshirting my Freshman year. My senior season very fortunate to be selected as a First Team All Conference Player and a First Team All American. Thanks to those accolades I went on to play in the East West Shrine Bowl, a college senior All star game. After that, I was fortunate enough to enter the 2019 NFL Draft where although I went unselected I was picked up in Free Agency by the San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately, I was not able to stick with the team as they decided to go another direction in my position. Luckily during my time at SFA I spent my time as a freelance graphic designer and web developer, this led me to building both of my companies; AlphaMedia which now focuses solely with start-ups in the tech space, and Sideline Design, which provides sports graphic templates to athletic departments in college and high school. Today I run AlphaMedia and Sideline Design as the CEO and have a team of over 20. I still train and hope to land a spot in the NFL somewhere at the same time.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think anyone’s road is ever “smooth”. I think everyone goes through their own struggles along the way and trying to get to where they want to be. I think one of the defining moments in my life was when I was in the 8th grade, I lost my Dad. Dealing with a death in the family is never easy but it was one of those things that made me really grow up fast and pushes me day in and day out. And contrary to what so many people on the outside see, I was never rich, I carry myself well and I see where that thought may come from, but growing up with little and humbly is also something just makes me strive every day to be able to take care of myself and my future family with ease.
AlphaMedia and Sideline Design – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
So I currently run two companies.
AlphaMedia is a software development company, we focus in building mobile apps, web apps, and designing those platforms for start-ups. We really take start-ups and give them everything they need to succeed from A to Z. We do a few things for companies like helping them find funding, providing them with a business consultant to keep them on the best path, developing their software, and even generate content for marketing and building a business plan and model.
Then there is Sideline Design, we are sports graphics provider for college and high school sports programs. We give templates for everything from game day’s to birthdays to our users in a library where they can download the template, plug in their information and send it out however they would like!
I am most proud of how much we have grown the last several months for both companies, it has been a blast to see what we can do.
What sets us apart (for AlphaMedia) is the fact that we want to take start-ups from beginning to the end, we don’t want to just help with one phase, we want to be different and provide knowledge we have gained in development of our other clients along the way, we make it personal for us to help you succeed.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career, I wouldn’t even consider in my career, but in my life… And I am most proud of being able to overcome every obstacle that runs in my path, God is great to have by my side for that part and I could not be more blessed. Every time something seems like a disruption to what I am doing, I am given the strength to push through it.
