Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy White.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Christy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started my journey as a photographer in 2010. What began as taking pictures of my own children and family and friends, has evolved into so much more! Over the years, my style has evolved from posed images to the lifestyle sessions I specialize in today. It’s been a journey that my life experiences as a wife, mother, foster parent and adoptive parent have shaped slowly into what it has become today. However, one event, in particular, was a true turning point that completely redefined my mission and how I thought about my purpose as a photographer.
In 2017, I had a health crisis that really forced me to take a look at my life. As I sat on the floor the night before brain surgery pouring through my family’s albums, I realized two things. First, there were very few pictures of me with my family. And, secondly, the pictures that were there did nothing to tell of the love I felt for my babies and my husband. All I could think was if I didn’t make it out of surgery, the only thing my kids would have was the handful of pictures and their own memories of me. From that moment, I promised myself that as soon as I was able to, I was going to do better. For both myself and my clients as well! I was going to make sure that my sessions went beyond the poses and told a story. A story that could be looked back on for years to come and shared with children who hadn’t even been born yet!
Over the past three years (I did make a full recovery!), I have studied, mentored and worked to perfect my photography! It has been such a rewarding journey! I love my job! It’s truly the most rewarding career I could ever think of. I am so privileged to call many of my client’s friends! I hope to meet you so we can work to tell your story, too!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
From the beginning to now, has definitely had moments of struggle! I think the obvious is one that so many women, mothers especially, face! Balance! Keeping up with everything in my business, working other jobs at times, providing the best service I could to my clients and being a mom and meeting the needs of my children was hard! It still is! In 2017, I was diagnosed with a meningioma brain tumor. To make it even worse, it was behind my right eye, which is the eye I use when I shoot! In order to save my vision and make sure things didn’t get worse, I had to have brain surgery! To make things more complicated, we were in the middle of adopting our three boys from foster care! Needless to say, photography took a backseat for a while! But once things were back to normal (as normal as they can be with six kids!), I got to work rebuilding my business in a totally new direction! It has been so much fun learning and growing! I am so happy to have had this second chance to truly serve my clients and capture their stories in a whole new way!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
My business is Christy White Photography. I specialize in lifestyle sessions for families! Capturing family’s stories my heart happy! If you are looking for a totally posed session where everyone smiles at the camera the whole time, I am not your photographer! If you are looking for a fun session full of laughter and authentic moments, then let’s talk! I love scouting out unique locations that families can explore and enjoy while we work. I love it when kids are kids! I think it’s the best when at the end of the session, everyone is a little tired and maybe slightly dirty and their cheeks definitely hurt from laughing and smiling! And not from saying cheese!! The highest compliments I can receive are when a dad says the session was actually fun and the kids are having so much fun they forget about the fact that we are even taking pictures!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I definitely would not be the photographer I am today without my kids patiently letting me perfect my skills on them! My husband has helped lug equipment and loads my car up more times that I can count! My parents have been forever encouraging! I can always count on them to like the images I post and spellcheck every blog post I write! As far as mentors, Stormy Solis has been my photographer crush for such a long time! This year, I was lucky enough to get to be trained by her and I have learned so much! I love how much I have grown as an artist since I started learning with her!
