Today we’d like to introduce you to DaKenya Douglas.
DaKenya, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m currently a Senior Vice President of Operations for Education Management, Inc. and Founder/CEO of DaKenya Douglas Consulting. I began my career in Higher Education 18 years ago in Financial Aid, moving my way up to Director of Financial Aid, Direction of Operations and ultimately through a change in jobs Corporate Sr. Director of Compliance, Vice President of Compliance and my current role as SVP of Operations. Over my career, I have to produce good work, maintain a high level of professionalism and cultivate a legacy of consistency, reliability and resourcefulness. I have a track record of providing results, cultivating high-performing teams and creating infrastructure and processes to scale the organization. I attribute my resolve and focus to my parents, both of whom worked tireless and in careers in which they leveraged their tenacity and skills because neither of them had a college education. My mother worked in the medical field in billing and coding and my father has worked for Fortune 500 companies in transportation and logistics. I owe my dedication to excellence and my value system to both my parents who continue to be shining examples of resilience.
In addition to my parent’s examples, I had internal allies and sponsors who partnered with me to create my career progression planning and goal-setting. Positions such as Sr. Corporate Director of Compliance, Vice President of Compliance and SVP of Operations were all roles that were uniquely created for me. My current Boss’ sponsorship has opened up tremendous opportunities for me to grow and develop as a leader and given me flexibility to close my skills gaps and hone in on my zone of genius through which I have designed and implemented professional development curriculum and strategies as well as operational skills which have led to the founding of DaKenya Douglas Consulting.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memories from childhood always revolve around time with family and good food. Southeast Louisiana is all about small-town values and nothing speaks to that like good food and family! Growing up, my Mom’s side of the family spent most major holidays together. By family, I mean my Grandmother, her siblings, their kids, and their kids’ kids. So yes, a super extended family reunion for July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve (Breakfast), New Years, and Easter. My Great Aunt’s house was the usual “go to” spot and me and all of my cousins would play together the whole day and eat amazing home-cooked food.
