Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Barrois-Moses.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a little girl, I always loved to draw and dabble in some type of art. Luckily, I have artists on both sides of the family; therefore, I couldn’t run away from the creative bug. I would design clothing for my Barbie Doll, design homes and mansions. All in play of course. In high school, I was fortunate to be mentored by one of the top and well-known artists in the New Orleans area. Upon graduation, I had to make a hard decision, major in Art or Engineering?
I attended engineering school at LSU but still had a passion for the arts. I painted abstract art and dabbled in photography in my spare time. When an opportunity came to design t-shirts and masks, I jumped in immediately.
Creole Rose Apparel began during the pandemic in 2020 as a simple online store on Etsy selling t-shirts and masks. Within a couple of weeks, I realized that I must expand this business and add dropshipping items as well. I closed my Etsy store and launch my own website, creoleroseapparel.com. I now offer a variety of ladies’ apparel, men’s apparel, gifts, as well as masks and t-shirts.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not too many struggles. Only on the creative side to be unique in slogans to come up with for shirts, etc. Ideas will wake me up in the middle of the night and I have to immediately add it to my notes on my phone. I’ve always had the support of my husband, family, and friends and they were among my first customers. Doing research on manufacturers and drop shippers is a challenge but nothing to deter my business.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work full time for a global energy company for 15 years as an Operational Analyst. I have to inject a drop of creativity in this job as well. I’ll always volunteer to create a graphics for a meeting, retirement party, company event, etc. I just can’t run away from it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I am very blessed, not lucky. To be able to work full time and then come home and work for something you love to do is rare.
