Meet Danielle Johnson of Posh and Pretty Brow Bar in Clear Lake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Johnson.

Danielle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my business April 2018 but did not officially launch it until November 2018. I was working at my previous job at the time and had become extremely dissatisfied with it. Everyday that I was there, I yearned to have a business of my own that I could have total creative control over. While brainstorming business ideas, I ran across an Instagram post one day about training to become a microblading artist. At the time, I’d never heard of the technique, but I thought it would be a great opportunity for me. I always received compliments on how well-groomed my brows were, so I figured this was a no-brainer.

I decided to take a leap of faith and signed up for the training, but it was not at all what I expected and lacked a lot of the fundamental knowledge I needed. I finished it feeling confused, lacking confidence, and very disappointed that I had just wasted a few thousand dollars. I was mostly unsure of what to do next. For the next several months, I felt paralyzed because I wasn’t sure if I should just try taking on clients with the little knowledge I had, invest in another several thousand dollar training, or quit altogether. I ended up deciding to invest in business coaching instead with Marisol Medina of Microblading Hub and that was one of the best decisions that I made in my business. She helped me to streamline things and lifted a lot of the fog and confusion I had around running a beauty business.

I have since taken three other training courses and am much more knowledgeable and confident. However, I still feel that there is so much more that I want to learn in the field of permanent makeup.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As I previously mentioned, one of my biggest obstacles starting out was finding adequate training.

Aside from that, I still work a 9-5 while I’m building my business. In addition to that, I am also a mom. It’s a daily challenge to juggle all of these roles, especially with my entire family living in Louisiana, but I make it work.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Posh and Pretty Brow Bar story. Tell us more about the business.
I provide a variety of eyebrow services. I specialize in microblading, semi-permanent ombre brows, and combination brows (a mix of microblading and the ombre technique). I also provide non-invasive brows services including brow shaping and henna brows.

What I’m most proud as a company is my ability to communicate with my clients well. I make sure to explain the procedure from start to finish before, during, and after the service so that they feel comfortable and competent.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, success means freedom. Freedom to live the life you desire on your own terms.
