Today we’d like to introduce you to Darren Jones.
Darren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all started back in 1995. It was during this time when I was seeking meaning and purpose for my life. I have always had a passion to serve and be creative. A short time later (three years), this passion was fuel by an entrepreneurial drive.
It was during this time when I set a goal to open my own hair salon. I can remember enrolling in a beauty school with zero experience in hair care. What I did have was a strong desire to learn and to succeed in this industry. Early on, there was always a passion to provide top level services to a diverse clientele. The vision for beyond hair at the idea stage was to change lives from the inside out. Every guest gets one on one, treatment.
Pulling from my knowledge of hair along with nutrition. The nutrition came about when I was starting my weight loss transformation. Then later, I started competing in bodybuilding contest. This has been a big part of my expertise that separates me from the rest. My vision is to educate men and women on a massive level. Helping the masses experience better hair with the help of nutrition.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of the biggest struggles was my second marriage that ended divorce. This took place within the first year of opening my salon in the Humble area. For the last few years, I have been a full-time single Dad of four children.
During my separation, I decided to stop drinking alcohol and focus on fitness. In which later I learned that I was an alcoholic. The first year in business, parenting single four children, having to move back home with my Mom, and stay sober. By the grace of God, I am still sober. Still thriving to create a viable business.
My children are healthy. This makes me grateful. Success, costs! And sometimes the payment is moving forward without people who were there at the beginning. Not an easy task, but it’s necessary. Be willing to march to your own drum beat because the pain of regret is a real thing. Something that can be avoided, when one is willing to take risks.

I offer a range of services, from color, balayage, smoothing treatments, custom conditioning, haircuts for men and women, product knowledge, and nutrition tips. I am proud to see clients improve their lives because they trusted the process that we started them on.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in San Jose, California. Being an only child, I always a charisma about my self that attracted people to me. To this day, clients feel at ease in my salon chair. Though I never meet a stranger, I do enjoy alone time. As a kid, I always wanted to be a bodybuilder.
