Meet Delicia Waller of Delicia E. Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delicia Waller.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, my parents were big on documenting our lives. My dad was the typical dad with a camcorder and my mom stayed with a disposable camera on hand. I would always look through photo albums asking who someone was to get the back story on the photo. Fast forward, as I got older I remember in high school I would print all my photos off my phone so that I can keep them for memories but at that time, I didn’t think too much into being a photographer. In 2016, I had this random thought about documenting my family the way my parents did. I want amazing photos to frame and to put in the albums that sit on the coffee table that guest go through. While I was at SXSW that year something motivated me to go and buy a camera. So I left 6th street, drove to the nearest Best Buy and brought a Canon EOS T5 camera and the rest is history. I started to ask friends if I could practice taking pictures of them just so I could learn how to use the camera because I had no idea lol. Then the next thing I know, I was being asked what my rates were so the idea of turning a passion into a business started to blossom.

So then, Delicia E. Photography was born and I became the historian for families and even businesses so they can look back at photos that are physical proof of where their families/business started and have grown just like I have been able to since I was a kid.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh absolutely not lol but thats how you learn. When it comes to being in a creative space, it’s easy to get thrown off course. For me comparing my work to other artist was possibly the biggest struggle. I would say how come my work doesn’t look like hers or he has the best locations, whatever my mind came up with it took a toll on me. I would have anxiety when it came to sending galleries to my clients because I wanted to make sure they were getting the best work but I was still struggling with my confidence in my work.

So have I struggled yes, in many areas but I never gave up and kept trying to find my style and educating myself to build my confidence with this art.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Delicia E. Photography – what should we know?
At Delicia E. Photography I specialize in family, lifestyle and branding photography. While those are my specialty areas, I also do wedding photography, events and now expanding to real estate.

I am mostly proud of the genuine connections/bonds I get to experience with my clients from this business. I have met some of the greatest clients who actually became my friends. Like I said before, I am in the position to document people’s lives and it so rewarding to me. Memories fade but images can last a lifetime.

What sets me apart, I would say my love for what I do. I truly love this work and I make sure my clients can feel that. Also, I make sure I educate my clients from choosing the best time to take photos to creating a mood boards to help them facilitate their vision. I want to make sure they are comfortable and I am fully committed to their vision as I am committed to getting the best images possible.

Going into 2020, I will be exploring my creative visions and creating personal projects to challenge myself and expand my skillset.

I will also be starting my blog to highlight my sessions(past and recent), share tips and showcase the personal projects.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
So many people deserve credit for me being where I am today. I want to first say thank you to God!

My clients have played a big role because they trusted me and believed in me. I’ve pushed beyond my boundaries to make their vision come alive. Thats huge for me so they deserve a hand clap, thank you all.

My family, because they were always down for any crazy ideas I may have had and allowed me to practice in a safe place. My first event I photographed was our family reunion in 2016. They encourage me and motivate me because I want to make them proud and show them anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

My baby sister is my go to person for a lot of my content, I vet it through her first because I value her creativity.

My mentor Kayla, we met randomly in the midst of our photoshoots. When I saw another woman doing something I was just learning to do, I got excited. So I asked for her card and the rest is history. I learned a lot about running a business and client relationships from her and still learning to this day.

My friends and they know who they are, for constantly reminding me of what I’m capable of and cheering me on while I figure things out in the business or when I’m overwhelmed. They too are always down to be my muse if I need them and that I am forever grateful for that.

THANK YOU!
