Meet Denise Hamilton of WatchHerWork in Kirby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Hamilton.

Denise, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
WatchHerWork.com is a multimedia digital platform that is closing the achievement gap for professional women by providing the much needed professional advice they need when they need it, how they need it. I started WatchHerWork because I knew that many women didn’t have a network of solid advisors to help them navigate their careers. At WatchHerWork, we believe you shouldn’t have to have powerful friends to have powerful information.

By video crowdsourcing and carefully curating work/life wisdom from top female executives, entrepreneurs and thought leaders from all walks of life, WatchHerWork.com helps women make the decisions that propel them to success. We are ready to close the achievement gap between men and women and that’s what happens when women have access to the right information. We use HER life as your lesson.

I have been an executive for over 25 years and the first woman or African American in countless situations. I’ve been divorced and remarried, a single mother, cared for a chronically ill child as well as aging parents. I’ve relocated for work and worked in Fortune 100 companies, education and launched 2 businesses as an entrepreneur. My diverse work experience uniquely prepares me to be sensitive to the many issues facing professional women.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all. First, we have bootstrapped this business, so we are always looking for ways to leverage limited resources for maximum impact. It’s also important to note that being a social entrepreneur is different from a typical business. Keeping a keen eye on the mission of the organization while being laser-focused on developing revenue streams is tricky.

Entrepreneurship can be isolating. I am a people person, so not working in an office every day with tons of people has been challenging.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with WatchHerWork – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
WatchHerWork is helping women find the answers to the challenges we all face in business. How do you ask for a raise? What do you do if a client hits on you? When should you tell your boss that you’re pregnant? No one has the answers to all of these questions, but together we all do. By sharing this wisdom we help women avoid puddles we have already stepped in.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We currently have over 5,000 videos and plan to have 25,000 by the end of next year. We are also in the process of adding courses. New functionalities will be added to the site including the ability to schedule one on one mentorship with our mentors.
