Meet Devonte “King Loyal” Clark of Forever Loyal Apparel in Southside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devonte “King Loyal” Clark.

Devonte, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Forever Loyal started with the thought of “If I died today, what would I be remembered for? How could I continue my legacy after life ?” Not to sound depressing, but that’s truly how it started in July 2016. Then, began a journey where I believe will become global. The brand name “Forever Loyal” comes from the only thing we as people believe in. Without loyalty, there is no trust, no love, no way to become successful. We started off as just selling hats at HBU with just the brand name. Started off with 12 hats, sold those in three days. Then, grabbed 20 sold those in a week. So, with confidence selling to everyone around the university began getting a name the hat guy. My consistent buyers hinted that I should make shirts but I put it to the side. After graduating that December, my sales went down a lot because I wasn’t on campus anymore. So, I then began making weekly stops just to sell my hats. A few months later, I knew in order to continue to grow my business I had to make something different. I made one shirt with three colors sold those out in one week. Fast forward to today with over 40 items for men and women, I believe the company has grown substantially. I pray we continue to get into more store and become a household name nationwide.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the struggles were being stagnant not wanting to switch up. Change is usually beneficial when it comes to making clothes. Online retail makes everything easy to find but difficult to remember because of the constant distractions.

Forever Loyal Apparel – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Forever Loyal is a clothing brand that embraces loyalty more than a word but as a lifestyle. I do all the work from making the clothes, getting it packaged, talking to different store owners, creating the website, etc. Everything it represents is me. I do have friends and family that helps out whenever they can. What I am most proud of about my company is the breakthrough it helped to get others to see that anyone can become a business owner with hard work and dedication. Forever Loyal eye-catching phrases, designs, and colorways sets us apart from many other clothing companies. Affordability also differs from us.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
