Meet Diana Hernandez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Hernandez.

Diana, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My love for photography started as a child when I would see my mother with her cameras. She was always the one with a camera because she loved documenting her life. To this day, I have a huge container of pictures. I remember I would get so excited when she allowed me to take some photos! I did not start getting serious about photography until after graduating college. Photography for me was always a fun hobby, I never thought I could turn it into something more. Forward to 2020, I am now taking photos of bloggers, families, couples, and sports. I have even grown a love for film photography. While this year did not look like how I expected it, I am very excited about the future!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Photography is not my full time job, so the road has been interesting. In the beginning, I found myself comparing my photography to other photographers I had been following. Eventually, I had to figure out that comparing my work to others in a negative way would lead me nowhere. What I also found hard was getting equipment. Camera gear is expensive!!! It took me a while to upgrade my DSLR from the ten year old camera I had! Nonetheless, I am grateful for the journey because it has given me the time to find my style and love for photography.

Please tell us about your business.
Diana Alia Photography is a business I was always scared to start, but here we are! I specialize mostly in portraits, but I capture everything. This year was actually my first year to photograph a wedding, which is something new to me but looking forward to the challenge. I have worked with local bloggers and have captured some amazing proposals. I am proud to give my clients a chance to be creative as well. While there are some who may feel more comfortable with allowing me to direct them during a shoot, it is freeing to also give that creative aspect to the client. The want to create is inside everyone and I get to help capture it.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The future is looking great! My dream is to be a content creator/photographer for a professional football team overseas. This year I even got to capture the opener game for the Houston Dynamos! Of course, I hope to become a full time photographer and obtain freelance jobs that will get me more experience.
