Today we’d like to introduce you to Doyin Fashakin.
Doyin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My love for events started over 15 years ago when I used to host birthday parties and bridal showers for my friends. Guests who attended these events noticed my creativity and attention to details and urged me to start planning and designing events professionally.
I remember planning my very first wedding in 2004 for a friend who had a tight budget and a guest count of 80. I was the planner, the decorator, and the florist in order help my friend save on cost. I remember going online to watch a video on how to make a balloon arch for my friend’s sweetheart area. Little did I know the sweetheart area would become one of the biggest wedding trends of our time. I have since planned events with as many as 3000 guests and in over 5 continents.
I have to say my career journey hasn’t been the easiest but I had to try everything until I found out what truly worked for me and my business. One thing that has definitely worked is staying positive and motivated even when things don’t seem to be going in the right direction. My faith in God, hard work and my positive energy has helped to get me to where I am today.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Small businesses come with a host of challenges. Some rewarding and some harsh. We had some financing struggles when we first started the company. There were so many big ideas and projects to implement but not enough funds. As our company grew, our funding options got better.
Attracting and keeping great team members was another challenge we faced in our early stages. I can say we have a great team now but finding the right people with the same passion wasn’t easy at all. We had to go through a few team members before finally finding those who fit perfectly with the company culture.
There have been other challenges through the years but we’ve been to adapt and come out of each struggle positively.
Please tell us about Doyin Fash.
Doyin Fash (formerly Events by Doyin) is an event planning and production company specializing mainly in luxury weddings, social occasions & corporate events. Though based out of Houston, TX, we plan events all over the world. We have planned intimate gatherings for as little as 30 people and large occasions for as many as 3000 guests. Our goal is to always utilize fresh ideas to create innovative events for our clients while maximizing their event results.
We never rush our clients but pay attention to every little detail about their event. Our clients have said what makes them come back to utilize our services is our structure, patience and calmness when working an event. You’re only as good as your last event so we put great and positive energy into each event we produce.
One thing that sets up apart besides our attention to details is the fact that we have experience planning events internationally and locally. We’ve planned events in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, The Caribbean and the Middle east, we have team members who speak Spanish, Portuguese, French and Mandarin.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
One of my favorite memories from childhood was visiting an orphanage with family. That experience made a tremendous impact in my life. The visit taught me to be grateful no matter where I find myself. My three little boys now go with me to feed the less privileged at every opportunity we get.
