Meet Dr. KaNisha Hall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. KaNisha Hall.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dr. Hall. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am originally from Louisiana. After graduating from medical school at Howard University in Washington, DC. I returned to the south to start and grow my practice. Houston seemed like the ideal place to launch a new platform for medicine since it is home to the largest medical center in the world.

However, in line with my mission to remove the stigma of mental health and addiction medicine, I decided to focus mostly on telemedicine. Previously, my patients would report privacy issues, scarcity of providers, and stigma of seeking care as significant barriers to effective treatment. Telemedicine brings virtual access to healthcare to the patient. It allows individuals to video chat, text, and talk with their healthcare provider via mobile devices. This convenience tackles these major barriers to people getting the help that they need.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There is still a great deal of work to be done to improve access, such as recruiting more providers to embrace new technology. However, I am very pleased with my ability to reach patients all over the great state of Texas and the other six states that I practice (Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Nevada). Telemedicine has taken away the physical constraint of brick and mortar practice.

We’d love to hear more about your practice.
So my telemedicine practice focuses on wellness coaching and addiction recovery. The focus is all about holistic care, beyond medical management. The goal is comprehensive physical, mental, and spiritual health.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana. I have always excelled in academics. My parents believed in education and would push my brother and me to achieve those things that seemed beyond their reach. Aside from my scholastic achievements, I am a classically trained pianist. I have played several other musical instruments as a church musician. Growing up in a southern baptist church helped me find my voice as a young woman. I learned to sing and speak those things that were on my heart and people seemed to enjoy listening. My mother would describe me as “determined and stubborn.” My friends would describe me as comical and loyal. My critics would most likely say I never know when to give up.
