Today we’d like to introduce you to Edgar Cavazos.
Edgar, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I co-founded Trokiando with my cousin, Juan Hernandez and good friend Jorge Guevara. In the beginning, we had no real vision for the brand, we had several ideas but nothing solid was ever put in to place. I’ve always been passionate about graphic design. So, I decided to create a logo for Trokiando and a shirt design with my cousins truck as the main feature. Once the shirt was finished, we ended up contacting several friends within the truck scene to help spread the word. Within a couple of weeks, we had sold out on that shirt design. We knew we were on to something and decided to strictly go for the clothing brand idea. Since all three of us were passionate about the custom truck scene, we wanted to incorporate other trucks into our designs. One thing led to the next and we started featuring other trucks into our designs which further helped spread our name and solidify our brand into the culture.
Throughout the past six years, we’ve traveled to multiple truck shows showcasing our products and brand and have made countless new friends along the way while also gaining a massive following and support from our fans. We’ve garnered the respect of peers and have made a name for ourselves in the truck scene community.
Has it been a smooth road?
When we started Trokiando, it was a part-time hobby for us. All three of us had our own full-time jobs and after work, we would get together to work on the brand. After about two years of that, we had gotten to a point where it was getting too much to handle as a hobby now. The hardest part for me was giving up my full-time job with a guaranteed paycheck to now doing Trokiando full time. But I knew in order to keep the brand growing that it had to be done. To this day, it was the best decision I have made. Anything worth having in life requires risk and courage, and I knew if I wanted to chase my dreams then I would have to overcome that hurdle that was holding us back.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Our brand is called Trokiando, which is a Spanish term for “trucking”. We’re a clothing brand within the custom truck scene culture. We’re better known for our innovative designs and ideas that we constantly come out with through the products we sell. One thing that some people confuse us for is that they think we’re a truck club. They see countless trucks on the roads with our logo on the back windshield and assume it’s a crew. That’s what sets us apart from others is the fact that so many support us and rep our brand that it essentially is it’s own community now. That’s also what we’re most proud of is that we created something as a hobby and has now gained supporters nationwide.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Houston is a perfect city for businesses like ours. The massive diversity we have is beneficial for almost any business. If you’re a small business dedicated to one niche, there’s almost a guarantee you’ll find support in the city for it. It’s the main reason we were able to grow and get known is because of the big truck scene culture we have in Houston. Houston made and Houston proud!
