Meet Elishia Baines of Tasty Gourmets in Southwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elishia Baines.

Elishia, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ll say I was around maybe 7 or 8 when I notice cooking was something I wanted to learn. My mother and God’s mother used to always yell at me to get out of the kitchen, but I would refuse too. Growing up, my mother was very ill, so it would be times me and my sister would have figured out what would be our next meal. One day my mother was in bed ill, and I told her if she walked me through, I’ll cook Sunday dinner. I had to be about ten at this time, and my mother said the food taste like I had been cooking for years. From that forward, cooking has been my passion. My family and friends are the ones who pushed me into starting my own catering company. My style of cooking is southern and everything made from scratch with love.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a business from the ground is never easy. Yes, I have days where I’m successful, and then their days where I’m slow. Branding and getting people to trust is probably the hardest, but you have to keep pushing no matter what.

Please tell us about your business.
Tasty Gourmets is southern-style cooking. We cater different events and we also specialize in meal preps. We’re most famous for our delicious boudin balls. They’re huge and will have you coming back for more. I’m proud of my company for never giving up and always maintaining its faith.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would learn new ways to brand my business more.
