Meet Enrique and Diana Herrera of ShadowPlay Photography in Cypress

Today we’d like to introduce you to Enrique and Diana Herrera.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Our business started before we got married, I (Enrique) have been photographing for about ten years. I grew an interest in photography because I, at some point of my life, wanted to be a model. I had the opportunity to be photographed twice but I did not like the end results. I felt frustrated by the lack of involvement in the photographers so I picked up my camera and started making others feel like models. I started photographing portraits and then moved into wedding photography. It wasn’t until I got married that I understood more of the couple dynamic that I felt I was missing when I worked by myself.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When it comes to running a business, I would say that the most exhausting part is getting your name out to the clients that you would like to work with. I spent a few months going up to different venues and trying to network with them, but photography is such a saturated field, that all the venues I visited already had a preferred vendor.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with ShadowPlay Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My wife and I, both specialize in the wedding industry. Every photographer is different, and a lot of it has to do with our own personal experiences. And I know that we are known for our heavy involvement of nature in our photos. I really enjoy leading the couples to help them look their best by composing their bodies. And image describes a sentiment that can be translated through body language. Posing may be a dirty word nowadays, but when it’s done right, the image has a better structure.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We got the opportunity to photograph a local fashion designer’s fashion show, and through that event, we got the opportunity to contact a radio show that is given us a slot on their program. We plan on using the various social media outlets to interact more with future clients. We have also started incorporating video in our business plan.
