Meet Erica Martin of The Katz Meow Creations

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Martin.

Erica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I initially started my business around 2010 with a small selection of handcrafted wedding invitations and paper goods. I have always made jewelry, but the wedding invitations were the first thing that kick-started my business online. I eventually started making more pieces and listing them on my Etsy shop, which later allowed me to launch my own independent website.

Since then, I have grown my jewelry collection into four different cohesive collections vs. the normal one of a kind and/or three to four pieces I was creating previously. I still miss those limited design days; being creative, and free speaks volumes to me. My collections are still limited in quantities, but they have allowed me to grow and produce a line of jewelry that is available for boutiques to carry nationwide.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a business owner has definitely not been a smooth road. It never is, everything relies on you and/or you and your business partner. With that being said, you take a lot of risks finically to see which ones will or will not work out in your favor. I do it all because it is my passion….. so it is all or nothing for me.

Please tell us about The Katz Meow Creations.
Over the past few years, I have been focusing more on the jewelry side of my business versus the invitation side. Trying to focus on too many facets of the business have distracted my creative process.

My design esthetic is very eclectic in nature, which is what I believe has set me apart from others. I still love a good bold statement necklace, but I have also realized that it is not also everyone else’s style.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Growing up in California with all the outdoor activities like the beach, hiking, camping, and amusement parks. I also enjoyed my time spent in palm springs on my uncle’s boat during spring break.
