Meet Errol Allen of EA Consulting in West Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Errol Allen.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I left the corporate world in 2011 at the age of 53. Most people thought I was crazy to do so as I had five years to go until retirement. Something inside of me kept saying over and over – “there’s more for you to do.” The more that I ignored it, the louder it got until I made the jump to entrepreneurship. Initially, the going was somewhat tough. Doubt and even despair crept in, but good friends would not let me quit. I found myself using the Lone Star Card (food stamps) to buy groceries for six months in 2014. Prior to that, I bought food at the dollar store – liverwurst, a loaf of bread and mayonnaise. A liverwurst sandwich was sometimes breakfast, lunch and dinner, so the Lone Star Card was actually an upgrade.

During this same period, I had several customer service related articles published in the Houston Business Journal and a few online magazines – just enough to keep my hopes up! Slowly, we began to get traction in obtaining clients and conducting workshops. Things really picked up when a good friend of mine – Doug Winnie, an Action Coach here in the Houston area – referred me to one of his clients – Empire Industries- who needed assistance in improving customer service which included documenting their processes. The partners of this business – Steven Rozenberg and Pete Neubig soon began referring me to their peers within the industry. We now work with clients across the U.S.!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road. As previously mentioned, there were struggles with doubt, financial struggles and survival struggles! Would I be able to keep a roof over my head until business increased? Would my car last a little longer without breaking down until I was able to get another? Am I going to be able to pay utility bills this month? These questions were at the forefront for months!

Please tell us about EA Consulting.
EA Consulting provides consulting services where we assist our clients in several ways;

1. We document our clients business processes.

2. We assist our clients in developing core values for their businesses.

3. We develop job descriptions and performance standards to allow our clients to properly manage their
employees.

We specialize in process documentation. We use a three step method to reach the end result – a standard way to complete tasks within every department in a client’s company.

We are known for being very methodical, calm and patient during our sessions with clients.

We are most proud of the rapport we build and maintain with clients. We are also very proud of our growth over the past three years!

What we think that sets us apart is the fact that we are hands on consultants. We actually do the work versus suggesting work for our clients to do,

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would probably do a better job of marketing my services.
