Today we’d like to introduce you to Eryn Elliott and Debbie Rank.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Debbie and I are great friends and neighbors. We have been in the same book club for years. Her daughter saw a denim jacket that was very expensive. After several Topo Chicos and tequila, Debbie, knowing I am a fashion merchandising major, asked me to help her design a jacket for her daughter. She had lots of fabric from South America that we used. We love Day of the Dead, so we added that as well. Long story short we had lots of fun designing a jacket that her daughter was not in love with, but we were, so we sold it.
Please tell us about your art.
Our art is a personal denim item. Generally, we use jackets, but we also have vests, skirts, and jeans. We have always been inspired by the fabrics from our travels to South America. Clients come in and create a one of a kind jacket. We like to say if you can imagine it we will create it. We love when clients bring in personal items such as a piece of a wedding dress, their dad’s old ties or scarves left after their mom passed away. We are so inspired by our clients and their stories or ideas. We hope each client comes away with a piece of clothing that they feel represents them or tells their story.
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
As artists, I think we define success as seeing a client with a smile on her face and then she comes back again and again. I would say 90 percent of customers come back and bring friends. We have been in business two years now and to see how far we have come is very exciting. We have had so many people help us and support us along the way. We could never have been here without lots of wonderful advice.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
People can see us in several different ways. We do different shows around Houston such as The Nutcracker, The SugarPlum Market or The Dash Market, just to name a few of the shows that we do. We are also shown at The Houston Rodeo. We have paired up with several stores in the Houston area to do pop up shows. We also do home shows. The best way to see what we have is to look on Instagram, Facebook and our website at TwoTequilaSisters.com.
