Thanks for sharing your story with us Farah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After moving to the US, my documents were delayed and my whole life was put on hold. Devastated by the dependance on circumstances out of my control, I realized that I needed to come up with something to keep myself sane and happy. I caught myself thinking that my vanity is a place where I feel the most connected to myself and my makeup and skincare products have the same effect on me as meditation. As a photographer, I’ve always enjoyed product photography so marrying two of my passions seemed like a fun thing to do.
In addition to this, I had an idea of running a beauty blog for a long time ago, and I even came up with a name for it – Sun Kissed Blush but never had enough time for that before. Since time was not a problem anymore and I had nothing to lose, I decided to give blogging a try. My husband helped me with setting up the website and I started writing my first blog posts. By the time I got my green card, I got swept away with the opportunities hidden behind that blog so that I didn’t want to give it up.
Within my first year of blogging, I started to get products for a test and inquiries for partnership from well-known brands. The best part, I was also getting positive feedback and testimonials from my readers and followers online and offline. With Sun Kissed Blush, I feel that all my life I’ve been collecting separate pieces of the puzzle that eventually came together. Even though I was resisting my dream for so long, choosing analytics over art for my education and career, the universe somehow put me back on a track chasing my dream and I’m extremely grateful for it.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have to agree that pursuing your passion can be quite challenging as you are shifting away from your comfort zone. It is especially true for people like me, who come from a completely different background but are ready to explore something exciting and new. When you start chasing your dreams, there is no guidance on what and how you should do it, so applying somebody’s success model might not work for you. Therefore, when you start this journey, you have to be prepared for a bumpy ride as most of the things are learned along the way. It requires a lot of patience to build your experience through tests and trials. With that being said, this journey is not the easiest one for me. However, it is so rewarding and is worth trying.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sun Kissed Blush – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Sun Kissed Blush is a beauty and lifestyle blog, but for me, it is so much more. I treat it as an online magazine and I’m focusing on creating more editorial content. While professional photographs were the initial focus, Sun Kissed Blush expanded in providing accurate information about the products beyond the photographs. The goal is to make this blog the most reliable and comprehensive source for reviews without bias.
As a beauty junkie, before I launched the blog, I’ve spent a lot of time reading reviews and watching tutorials. However, I noticed that not always the ingredients are being disclosed in the reviews, especially for high-end products. In addition to this, it becomes really hard to find out what is inside of those fancy jars before you buy and apply its content to your skin – the body’s largest organ. With this in mind, I started to explore the products in more detail. I pay specific attention to the ingredients, highlighting those that might be troublesome according to scientific research.
I believe that thousands of my readers can benefit from such information, and it can help to navigate them on what ingredients they want to pay more attention to because these lists might be quite extensive!
In addition to this, the way you use the product can make you fall in love with it or completely ruin your experience. With that being said, I invest my time in evaluating reviews while testing the product on myself. Moreover, I’m focusing more on negative experience as I’m trying to understand why the product may not work for everyone. Since a majority of negative feedback usually comes from inappropriate use, I make sure to outline the right way of application in my reviews. At the same time, If the product is faulty or isn’t well-formulated, I leave honest feedback with recommendations on a particular product.
I believe, the way I approach each review creates a win-win situation for both consumers and brands and I’m happy to say that this statement is backed up by the growing blog statistics!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
At this moment, my husband and I are working together on improving the user web experience at Sun Kissed Blush. Besides, I’m also working on introducing the award system for products and services, so that it would be easier for my readers to identify the best ones on the market.
