Meet Fatima Donaldson of Fatima Donaldson Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fatima Donaldson.

Fatima is an advertising, fine arts and lifestyle photographer focused on authentic captures of people, places and things translating to a genuine representation in that fleeting moment. Through expertise and skill, she is able to capture and bottle that genuine moment into an image. Her passion began in a junior high school film photography class many moons ago and for over 30 years, she’s been clicking away.

Fatima brings her expertise in marketing, layout & design and business management along with creative freedom to interpret how products, services, lifestyles, and ideas can be created photographically. She works in very diverse settings all over the world to create unique captures customized for the project whether that is a Fortune 100 advertising campaign or an upcoming exhibit and everything in between. The projects vary as do the industries. She applies her naturalist approach to all advertising, fine art and lifestyle bodies of work serving as the common thread that weaves her style into every image.

She works with designers, decorators, art dealers and architects across the US to select the perfectly aesthetic image(s) for space at work an/or at home. For commercial installations, she includes dialogue with building owners and COOs for all the specifications necessary to conduct a successful installation from 20×30″ artwork to full-scale installations covering a 50′ wall and everything in between.

Fatima is an exhibiting artist and has participated in a variety of exhibits, both solo and group shows across the United States. For more information and to see Fatima’s work, you can visit her studio #217 at The Silos on Sawyer Yards in the Washington Avenue Art District in Houston to see the many options available.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road to where I am today at times seemed derailed and uncertain; however, looking back, I appreciate the adventures in the detours that provided many amazing learning and growth opportunities.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Fatima Donaldson Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a creative director and photographer. Most are one or the other. When I work with my corporate clients, this is extremely beneficial to them because I understand strategy, branding, positioning as well as marketing and business goals. I bring years of marketing consulting and design coupled with my photography so I understand how to capture for commercial clients so the images are best utilized in all their marketing portals from social media to print, from a business card to a national ad campaign and everything in between.

For my fine art work, I focus on authentic captures I’m fortunate to experience. When you view my fine art images, I hope you feel what I was feeling at the moment of the capture.

I focus on providing my clients the best experience with the most impactful images for success. Plus, I’m often told by my clients that I manage chaos like no one else!

Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years?  Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
Well, everyone’s a photographer. I mean, you have a cell phone, you’re a photographer. It can be frustrating at times when people minimize your profession and are ill-informed about what it takes to be a professional photographer.

Meaning, you earn an income to support your life from your profession. The trends of social media, especially platforms like Instagram definitely saturate the market with so many images. On a positive note, many new photographers have such a platform to discover their gifts.

Over the next 5-10 years, I think the biggest challenges is continued education to the general public the value of professional photographers and what they offer beyond those with a cell phone.
